The result of the move request was: moved without redirect. The discussion was a bit hard to follow, so please let me know if I egregiously misread the consensus. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 14:49, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
Canavalia kauaiensis → Canavalia hawaiiensis – According to Plants of the World Online, Canavalia kauaiensis is a heterotypic synonym of Canavalia hawaiiensis. William Avery (talk) 15:37, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
Support OpposeSupportand speedy closeper nom. Feel free to just move these in future. See below.per MtBotany. YorkshireExpat (talk) 17:15, 9 November 2024 (UTC)- Oppose I see a lot of sources calling it Canavalia kauaiensis. Kolano123 (talk) 20:35, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Kolano123 it's a junior synonym and we put pages at the senior synonym. This isn't a contraversial move. YorkshireExpat (talk) 20:36, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Actually scratch this, you're right! There are two species with similar names. @William Avery your link goes to Canavalia kauensis, but the page is pointing at Canavalia kauaiensis which is a senior synonym. I will strike my vote. YorkshireExpat (talk) 20:41, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'm supporting the move because the two references that are in the article are about Canavalia kauensis, the synonym of Canavalia hawaiiensis. Though I think it should be moved without leaving a redirect so that we don't have a problem redirect pointing at the wrong name. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 02:52, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

- Comment: just looking at the history on this and it has been moved already from Canavalia kauensis to Canavalia kauaiensis, so that move assumed it was a spelling mistake, whereas it probably should have gone to the senior synonym, which was Canavalia hawaiiensis. Whatever happens, we need to make sure the right information sits with whatever this page ends up as. YorkshireExpat (talk) 20:56, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Support, provided this a move without leaving a redirect. At Plants of the World Online both Canavalia hawaiiensis and Canavalia kauaiensis are listed as accepted names. Having checked the two references in the article it is clear that the article is about Canavalia kauensis, note spelling difference. Canavalia kauensis is a synonym of Canavalia hawaiiensis. Apparently this is a case of an accidental move due to confusion. The namespace Canavalia kauaiensis should be left empty and Canavalia kauensis should be redirected to Canavalia hawaiiensis. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 02:36, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose Redirect is sufficient. Kolano123 (talk) 07:38, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Kolano123 redirecting what to what? YorkshireExpat (talk) 18:03, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- This article, Canavalia kauaiensis. Kolano123 (talk) 18:05, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Kolano123 Redirecting makes no sense. This is a correct species name. It should either be rewritten with different sources as Canavalia kauaiensis J.D.Sauer or moved to Canavalia hawaiiensis O.Deg., I.Deg. & J.D.Sauer without a redirect. It would be entirely inappropriate to have a redirect from an accepted species name to another accepted species name. The article as written is about Canavalia kauensis H.St.John, which is a heterotypic synonym of Canavalia hawaiiensis. Additionally, this is the second time you've made an oppose comment in this discussion. You have been warned about this in the past in other discussions, it is disruptive behavior, please do not do this again. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 18:16, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- So this article should be more reliable sources with that name. Kolano123 (talk) 18:22, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sigh. Time to revote :D YorkshireExpat (talk) 19:19, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
