WikiProject COVID-19

[edit]

I've created WikiProject COVID-19 as a temporary or permanent WikiProject and invite editors to use this space for discussing ways to improve coverage of the ongoing 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic. Please bring your ideas to the project/talk page. Stay safe, --Another Believer (Talk) 17:30, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It has been suggested by Russian doctors that virtually no CV19 testing is being conducted across Russia, while at the same time the number of pulmonary deaths has exploded. I cannot check or comment on neither numbers. It would be helpful if anyone could present meaningful data on the number of testing performed over time, and the development of pulmonary admissions and deaths compared to the last couple years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HeirsOfEulerBernoulli (talkcontribs) 22:57, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We need to correct the map of cases in Russia, which currently includes the Crimean Peninsula. The Peninsula is internationally recognised (including by the UN, Parliamentary Assembly of Europe, and the EU) as Ukrainian territory. Can we please update the map to the geographically correct parameters? Cajoubert (talk) 14:37, 17 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It is not widely recognised by all international community, I suggest to maintain the current map. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.39.214.62 (talk) 08:59, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Official covid-19 stats and map

Disruptive edits and figures

[edit]

There are continuous edits by IPs and new accounts that are trying to alter the figures, especially the number of deaths. It's already been established and clearly noted that the 1 death is not included in official statistics, and the consensus is to use official statistics (included in стопкоронавирус.рф). This is being ignored by these IPs/accounts and some of them continually try to make the same edits despite them being reverted. Therefore the article may need some level of protection to stop these disruptive edits if it persists. Please be aware that government figures must be used. Mellk (talk) 17:04, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It may be possible to include new deaths reported by news agencies, though they would need to be removed if they are not eventually included in government figures. Mellk (talk) 17:12, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Numbers are inсonsistent

[edit]

Sum of all numbers in column "Moscow" in table "Timeline of COVID-19 cases in Russia by federal subjects" totals to 704. "Total" cases for this column written as 703. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.141.115.233 (talk) 06:26, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

True. The total number is the official one by the Russian taskforce, and daily numbers are by the Russian watchdog. They don't add up since one case seems to be recorded either by Moscow or Moscow Oblast by different sources. Still, can't ignore the official total number because it's the most up-to-date. Gajmar (talk) 10:22, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

31 March increase

[edit]

So, news agencies and government sites say that the number of cases was 1,836 on 30 March (e.g.[1] and [2]), while this reached 2,337 on 31 March (e.g. [3] and [4]), which, mathematically, is an increase of 501 cases. However, these sites all say/said 500 instead. This has led to some statistics saying 500 and some saying 501. I'm guessing it makes sense to just say 501? Disabled templates?

[edit]

Can anyone tell why the templates at the bottom of the page are disabled? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:33, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Most likely Wikipedia:Post-expand_include_size. Ruslik_Zero 20:36, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Any objections to splitting off the timeline to Timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic in Russia? This would help reduce the size and thereby fix the template problem, as discussed today at Wikipedia:Help desk#COVID-19 pandemic in Russia. Capewearer (talk) 11:51, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am ok with this. Ruslik_Zero 13:55, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think the timeline will need to be split off eventually, the statistics section seems huge though, would splitting it help?. Mellk (talk) 01:31, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think so, but as that section is all templates, where could we put them other than in this article? Would they look awkward in a timeline article? Capewearer (talk) 09:00, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have just removed the biggest template, which was the timeline and only left a link to it, similar to how it is in the US article. Fixed the templates not showing issue. I don't think a separate article for statistics is needed therefore, it would be only for this template. Regarding the timeline section, I think it should be split and the main article should only state main stages of development. It might be good some of the information from there to other relevant sections. Gajmar (talk) 09:06, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Now, however, a lot of timelines references need to be fixed though. Gajmar (talk) 09:07, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Gajmar, I'll help fix the orphaned references. Capewearer (talk) 10:44, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, that's not going to help here. There are over 90 orphaned references in the Timeline section, and if I copy all of those back in from the template, we'll just go over the size limit again, especially as more references are added for future months. So we still need to split the timeline off. I'm going to WP:BOLDly do that now to fix this article, though there's not been much time for discussion on this. Capewearer (talk) 11:28, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, done. And I think I've fixed all the remaining "undefined reference" errors, but if I've missed any please point them out here. Thanks, Capewearer (talk) 12:43, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

filled charts

[edit]

These new filled charts are fugly! Please revert to the old style.

200.68.142.20 (talk) 02:45, 7 June 2020 (UTC) baden k.[reply]

Anything more constructive then? The point of these "area" charts is to bring it closer to the original style which was columns but without labels and with the date format on x. Unlike line charts which represent a piece of data in a particular day, area is supposed to show new cases/recoveries/deaths. Therefore, a different visual format is needed, also showing that combined area means the total number like in maths where not only a dot and it locations show information but also area as well, while a slice of it shows new cases. Gajmar (talk) 13:07, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You are referring to column and stacked column charts. Filled scatter charts are usually in the domain of the undereducated, and commerce people. Academic charts are generally never filled. Clarity is the goal.
200.68.142.244 (talk) 05:55, 12 June 2020 (UTC) Baden K.[reply]
The column charts for India seem ideal. They have a horizontal scroll bar to keep the date labels legible.
200.68.142.244 (talk) 06:02, 12 June 2020 (UTC) Baden K.[reply]
I guess these fugky charts are a special English only wiki 'feature'. I checked 18 other languages for Russia, and none have these filled charts.

COVID-19 pandemic in Moscow

[edit]

Привет, википедисты! (It means "Hello, Wikipedians!" in Russian), So the largest city in Russia is Moscow and also the capital city of Russia. I hope anyone will create article titled COVID-19 pandemic in Moscow, The proposed article will be titled as title COVID-19 pandemic in Moscow will be focused on the pandemic within the Russian capital city of Moscow. The propose article will include how many active cases, how many deaths, how many recoveries and how many overall cases within the city of Moscow. I will by happy for anyone's reply for the requested article to be created and will be only focused on the city of Moscow. Thanks for your time. Come back if the propose article is created. See you later. 2001:569:74D2:A800:E94B:3EB:5BC8:C3B2 (talk) 06:10, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You can always create it yourself. Ruslik_Zero 12:31, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Treatment and victims section

[edit]

In my opinion, it seems unnecessary to have a lot of the information that's there in the treatment section in this article. It also seems unnecessary to have a list of all the victims in the article; I think the high-profile ones should just be added to List of deaths due to COVID-19 while some of the others could instead be mentioned in a separate new article about specific impacts, for example "Social impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Russia", "Political impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Russia" and so on. Just seems a bit cluttered here. Mellk (talk) 00:07, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The healthcare section I think should also be cut down and put into a background section. Mellk (talk) 00:09, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Update?

[edit]

This whole page is seriously neglected and obsolete, where the Russian language page is current. Maybe some interested person could alleviate the discrepancy?

200.68.143.18 (talk) 20:12, 31 October 2020 (UTC) Baden K.[reply]

This is a great idea as we want both pages to be accurate and up-to-date. Perhaps an interested party can keep the english article updated so it does not contain stale information. Jurisdicta (talk) 03:53, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I will eventually update the timeline article first and then work to update the other sections afterwards. Unfortunately in what seems like a one-man job, it is not easy, so any additional manpower would be appreciated. Mellk (talk) 19:43, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Death toll of 116,030

[edit]

Recently, a new number of people who died in Russia since the start of the pandemic was released, 116,030. This includes all the people with Covid-19. [1] [2]. Should we include these figures in the table? Maybe to set a range from 56,426–116,030? --3E1I5S8B9RF7 (talk) 17:41, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've clarified the different totals, one as "preliminary" and the other as a Rosstat total. Mellk (talk) 19:45, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Victims

[edit]

Victims should be moved to List of deaths due to COVID-19 and at the very least, mention only those with existing WP articles. Mellk (talk) 19:31, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is a dedicated article to deaths so there is no need for this section. Mellk (talk) 12:39, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Since no one has objected, Mellk, feel free to WP:DOIT. See WP:MERGE for help. All the best, Miniapolis 15:20, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Article size

[edit]

Since the article size has become too large, I've split the impact sections to their own articles and have proposed merging the list of deaths section. But there is still hardly any room, and a summary of each impact section will need to be added as well as updates to the timeline and government responses section, so the next step soon will be to split the statistics section. Mellk (talk) 13:12, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure where to put this information

[edit]

It was reported in September 2021 that "More than 5.5 thousand clerics and monks of the Russian Orthodox Church in Russia have been ill with coronavirus" and that "as of September 1, 182 deaths from the effects of coronavirus were registered in Russia among the clergy of Moscow and dioceses, clergy and residents of the stavropegia". I do not knwo where I could add this information in the article. Veverve (talk) 15:59, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
