Comet details

[edit]

There has been a lot of erroneous information. First the comet was discovered in SOHO images, not confirmed. The confirmation came from Rob McNaught in Australia who recovered it after an intense search. Second, although the osculating eccentricity is larger than 1 in the inner solar system, the future (or proper) eccentricity is smaller than one. This can easily be seen when asking for the orbital elements a the [Minor Planet Center]. Thus, the comet retains in the solar system. Osculating perihelion eccentricity is never a good indication whether a comet leaves the solar system or not! -172.183.150.218 22:40, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
