[edit]Farnham and Yeovil just don't work, as this was the London Conductors' Lord's Prayer, and you could never get to Yeovil or Farnham on a London Bus! You could to all the other Locations. 164.36.142.217 13:12, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- Lead us not into Yeovil.
Harrow Road be thy name
[edit]Major West London throughfare and goes better with 'hallowed' - thats the way we learnt it anyway Plutonium27 (talk) 03:17, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Harrow Road is definitely what Dury sings on the recorded versions that I've got (on both Apples and The Bus Driver's Prayer and Other Stories), so I was going to change the page accordingly but I'm confused as to whether the version listed is supposed to relate directly to that version or some version from which it is supposedly derived CessPitts (talk) 19:58, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
Berkhamsted
[edit]It is Berkhamsted, not Berkhampstead
I cant seem to change it though...
Well, well, well. Sadly, I lost my Busmans Prayer file when I changed my hard drive; can't remember where I got it, but the info I had was that the Prayer was written by one Robin Richards somewhat earlier than the 1970's mentioned in the Dury related notes. As I recall, the poem surfaced back in the 1930's. Mr Richards was on the staff of London Transport buses. (Whether a driver or a clippie, I can't recall, if ever I knew). And his version?.................
Our Farnham, who art in Hendon, Harrow be thy Thame Thy Kingston come Thy Wimbledon, In Earith as it is in Hendon.
Give us this Bray our Leatherheads, And forgive us our bypasses, As we forgive those who Westminster against us.
Lead us not into Thames Ditton, But deliver us from Ealing, For Glynde is the Kingston, The Purley and the Crawley, For Iver and Iver Crouch End. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vrandstaeter (talk • contribs) 21:36, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Version problems
[edit]I undid the Revision as of 20:05, 11 August 2010 (and then respelled "Berkhamsted" again!) because it seemed to have missed the point about where it says "Below is a version predating Dury's recording, with alternate versions given in Notes." This revision, it looked to me, was mostly trying to get closer to the Dury version, but in so doing ignored the "versions" sentence I've quoted, and discarded a bit of data along the way. I'm not saying it was necessarily wrong, and that the Dury version shouldn't play its part, but just that is maybe needed discussing, or the introductory lines rewriting, or both, or something...
