I've uploaded two additional images of the Fountain to the Commons, should someone wants to make use of either of them in this article. Kelly Martin 14:21, September 11, 2005 (UTC)

Buckingham Fountain in Chicago, Illinois Buckingham Fountain in Chicago, Illinois

I thought US gallons were bigger than litres?

The information regarding monitoring system is incorrect I think. They moved to an Allen-Bradley PLC system in 2013 according to this page. http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks/clarence-f-buckingham-memorial-fountain/

"The Chicago Park District upgraded the Buckingham Fountain computer in 2013 with a non-proprietary Allen-Bradley PLC System. Today, all of the automation and monitoring takes place on-site, with remote alarm monitoring and notification." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.171.131.175 (talk) 13:11, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced material

[edit]

The following is unsourced information:

  • The opening credits of the Fox sitcom Married... with Children feature a shot of Buckingham Fountain. Due to the show's popularity in Japan, the fountain was given the nickname "The Bundy Fountain" by Japanese tourists.
  • The fountain was the official starting point for U.S. Route 66.
  • The fountain has an alarm system, which is monitored from Honeywell Central Station in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
  • There are four statues in the fountain representing the four states that surround Lake Michigan (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin).
  • The fountain was the starting line for The Amazing Race 6.

While this is interesting, we can't use it unless you provide a source. Also, none of this is really trivia, as trivia by its definition is "unimportant information" - it therefore shouldn't be in a trivia section but instead the information should be incorporated into the main article. - Tbsdy lives (talk) 11:31, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Class Project Page

[edit]

This page has been selected by one of my students as a class project. Please be polite and constructive when editing or giving advice and be aware that the students involved in this project are learning Wikipedia along with learning research and writing skills. If you have any questions, please contact me. MrSilva (talk) 17:54, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Then your students should be aware that if they need help with anything Wikipedia related then they can request it by placing a {{helpme}} tag on this page. All information should be noteworthy and cited to a reliable source. Potentially controversial or major edits should be discussed first on article talk so that other editors can voice their opinions to avoid edit wars. That said, be bold and make changes where they are appropriate. Information should preferably be incorporated into prose rather than lists for the sake for readability. See our Manual of style for general article style information. Editors are encouraged to sign up for an account so that their edit history can be followed, they can interact more easily with the community and their edits do not get confused with other anonymous editors on the same IP address. All of my students have user accounts - none are editing anonymously. This is a learning process for me as well as my students and all we are asking for is a little patience while we all try to become effective and productive Wikipedians. They are used to having to complete there work on their own so becoming comfortable with asking for and receiving help from complete strangers will take some time. Conflicting information

[edit]

The history section appears to have conflicting information, stating "with sculptures by Jacques Lambert" and "The statues were created by the French sculptor Marcel F. Loyau." Also the sentence "The design of the fountain was based on the Bassin de Latome and modeled after Latona Fountain at Versailles." seems to be repetitive as the Bassin Latona is French for the Latona Fountain. Section on vandalism

[edit]

Should we add a section on the vandalism that took place yesterday? Or is it not important enough?
