While proofreading this article I found I few things that confuse me.
1. At first the text says, "Then the Little Fish breaks the fourth wall...", Which suggests that the Little Fish is a singular person. Hence, the use of the word "breaks". But, Later in the paragraph I saw the phrase, "After the theme song, the Little Fish say the episode's name." Which suggest the Little Fish is multiple beings. Typo or intentional? Is season 6 the final season? I added a hidden note about the end date. Stays present until a year has passed after the episode premiered. Cwater1 (talk) 20:25, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is no requirement in Template:Infobox television that it stay "present" until a year has passed. That stems from a misreading of that the docs actually say. In fact, the reasoning for the 1 year thing is exactly the opposite - so that it doesn't stay "present" in perpetuity if there is no reliable source indicating that the show has been renewed. There is no such requirement for a reliable source indicating that it is cancelled. It is perfectly fine to indicate the last date of the season. If it gets picked up again, and a source indicates renewal, then change it back to "present" and note the source. ButlerBlog (talk) 18:38, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I removed the efn about the gap - that's not necessary, and it also causes the infobox to show up in the maintenance category as being malformatted. The date gap is evident from the dates in the episode summary table. If further explanation is needed, do it in the prose of the article - the infobox param is just for the date only. ButlerBlog (talk) 18:40, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There are other articles where the hidden note is available, because we don't want anyone adding a date for something that has an unreliable source attached for the "ending" or spreading misinformation. The claim about keeping the "end date" until a renewal/cancellation post-airing is stupid, IMO. It would give a reader the impression that it is over, when it actually isn't. I say we bring in @Magitroopa, as he might know a thing or two about this. BrickMaster02 (talk) 21:31, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not a valid argument - although I think you and I might actually be referring to two different things in this instance, as I was not referring to the hidden note (i.e. HTML comment). Those are fine and are ignored by the maintenance category (as far as I'm aware). As for bringing in another editor, Magitroopa has participated discussions regarding Template:Infobox television as have I, so no problem there. The bottom line is this: We have maintenance categories in the television project for tracking certain common errors in formatting of the television infobox (such as Category:Pages using infobox television with nonstandard dates as is the case here). These are regularly patrolled to resolve these errors. To be clear, the error here is not specifically whether it's "present" or a date. If it were just one or the other would be fine as far as the maintenance category is concerned. The issue is the use of "show by date", the efn, or the combination of both that result in this article triggering that something is malformed. If you want to insist on putting the date to "present" - that's fine, because everything I've discussed above allows for that. But don't use {{show by date}} or {{efn}}. ButlerBlog (talk) 22:19, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, makes sense. It can hard to tell sometimes when a show is cancelled or not. For the future, I guess the show by date is not always needed. When a year passes, we can change to ended unless a WP:RS is produced between July 2023 and July 2024. I see what are also saying, the efn isn't needed as the article explains the gap. Cwater1 (talk) 20:02, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It might be helpful to point out that the purpose of an infobox is to summarize (and not supplant) key facts that appear in the article. Anything that is in the infobox should already be noted (and more importantly, supported) in the body of the article. As for waiting a year, the key point per the docs is that a date in the |last_aired= param does not imply the series has been cancelled, rather that the program "last aired" on that date. Regardless, as I noted, my primary concern on this article is that it not continue to show up in the maintenance category - if it it's a date or "present" alone, that's fine.
