Proposed rename
[edit]I propose that this article be renamed, as per the government website at [1]. This now bears the name, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. Imc 22:16, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Absolutely. I support. Thanks.Kanchanamala 05:11, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- Moved. There was an irrelevant move by a user stating that the website still bears the name "Bangalore". Well as per the official website, the name clearly bears "Bengaluru". Given that BBMP is an organization, it should be as per the current title. — LeoFrank Talk 10:20, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
- @LeoFrank: It wasn't an "irrelevant move", it was a move to the name still used by BBMP themselves at that time. When the move was made the English language version of the site still carried a banner saying "Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike", switching to "Bengaluru" as recently as a few weeks ago (relevant diffs: [2], [3]). So I suggest you check things before criticising the actions of other editors. Thomas.W talk 11:18, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Thomas.W: Well that's pretty weird given that the organization was renamed to "Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike" for over 8 years and its website also reflected the same since then. There was only a redesign of the website UI recently. I notice that you are in general against the name "Bengaluru" appearing in any article. — LeoFrank Talk 15:25, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
- @LeoFrank: It might be pretty weird to you, but having until recently had a banner on their English web site saying Bangalore and not Bengaluru is a fact. As apparently noted by the admin who made the requested move, who wouldn't have made the move without checking the links I provided. And claiming that I'm "in general" against the name "Bengaluru" is plain silly, I just go by what WP:COMMONNAME says, and would be equally much against moving Copenhagen to "København", because this is, after all, the English language Wikipedia.
