Question

[edit]

Hey guys, I just read this article:

http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2012/05/how-the-professor-who-fooled-wikipedia-got-caught-by-reddit/257134/

So it says that T. Mills Kelly (a professor at George Mason University) had his classes lie on this page.

Where these lies removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.205.222.116 (talk) 20:02, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, 108.205.222.116. I just saw your question now. As the Atlantic Monthly article states, the version of this article created by Prof. Kelly's students was not a hoax. They created it to support a hoax about having discovered the recipe for Brown's beer which they posted on their own "purpose-built" site. I checked all the facts carefully when I re-wrote and expanded it. However, the students had not written the Wikipedia article in their own words. They plagiarised a fair amount of the text from their sources. Perhaps Prof. Kelly should include lessons on plagiarism and close paraphrasing in his next syllabus.
