Name

[edit]

Does the name Bronski Beat have anything to do with Jan Bronski in The Tin Drum?

I must concur. I've removed it until someone can explain. 94.193.143.28 (talk) 21:18, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The band's saxophonist Richard Coles confirms the story in this interview at about 31m - his point is that the character's voice could shatter glass with its high pitch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LwEkbh72hY Shtove 20:38, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Tell me Why

[edit]

There has been a popular mid-90's remix of this track for a while, it seems to be a mash of "Smalltown Boy" / "Why", but it wasn't the Supermode version, the beat wasn't the same and it was slower. Does anyone know the track?

Alive 2007 usage

What evidence is there for the riff being used in Too Long/Steam Machine? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.187.128.50 (talk) 15:24, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Almond singing lyrics "incorrectly"

[edit]

Do cover versions have to reproduce the original lyrics exactly? And who is the ultimate authority on what the true lyrics are? How about songs with double entendres? (Of course, if Almond or someone else noteworthy related the anecdote, it may still be worth mentioning.) --217.226.81.117 (talk) 14:26, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Coles membership?

[edit]

In the article Richard Coles it is stated that he "joined Bronski Beat (initially on saxophone) in 1983", but this is not mentioned here.

Looking back in the history of that article, the following changes is of interest: [1] This indicates that (the editor concerned believed) Coles was not a member of the band, but did play (clarinet) on one of the hit singles. However, the both aspects of this change have been undone before the current version.

Coles speaks about it in this interview, from about 30m, and confirms the source of the name: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LwEkbh72hY Shtove 20:42, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
But was Coles a member of the group or not ? He is just listed as part of the horn section on the album page. -- Beardo (talk) 19:26, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's clear to me that he was not. Assuming these personnel credits are correct, Coles was one of several hired session musicians. And in the interview linked just above, Coles explicitly talks about Bronski Beat in the third person; Somerville formed the band with "two other guys," and then Coles saw them on Top of the Pops. I'm going to delete him from the membership lists in the article. --DavidK93 (talk) 23:00, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Out & About in the discography

[edit]

As far as I understand, that album was never released. So why is it in the discography section? Jules TH 16 (talk) 19:52, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
