"Jr."?
[edit]He is not properly referred to as "Bjarni Benediktsson, Jr", because (for all the family resamblance) he is not Bjarni Benediktsson's son, only his grand-nephew. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.220.80.12 (talk) 04:10, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- However Icelandic media refers to him as "Jr". --Norden1990 (talk) 02:04, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
- I have never seen this personally, it must be very rare (and there would also be no reason - people would not usually confuse them). I'm more curious about if this Sr./Jr. thing would in general in English only be used for father son (or possibly grandfather son)? If that is the case then maybe the page should be renamed. The Jr./Sr. thing is usually never used in Iceland, it doesn't apply since family names are not the norm. comp.arch (talk) 11:34, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- I suggest the Jr. name be removed, it is not conventional for Icelandic names to begin with seeing as they are patronymic. If the media ever referred to him as Jr. when he was new to politics, they do not do so anymore. He is related to the older Bjarni Benediktsson, but it is wholly inappropriate to place the Sr./Jr. tags on them. I suggest instead the title of the article be Bjarni Benediktsson (born 1970). -Ice-72 (talk) 11:38, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

This document from the Panama Papers, https://web.archive.org/web/20160404210750/https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/2782977-Benediktsson-Bjarnidoc1r.html shows that someone called Bjarni Benediktsson is given the Power of Attorney in December 2005 for the company, Falson & Co. Now I know that this alone wouldn't be enough for inclusion in the article, but the EUobserver published this article stating that "The Iceland leaks show that prime minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson, finance minister Bjarni Benediktsson and interior minister Olof Nordal all had links to offshore firms that they failed to disclose." Should this be included? Seagull123 Φ 21:15, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Bjarni Benediktsson (born 1970) → Bjarni Ben – WP:COMMONNAME ([1], [2], [3]) and WP:NATURAL disambiguation with Bjarni Benediktsson (born 1908). Theparties (talk) 04:21, 26 November 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 12:47, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose Wrong. The Icelandic archive of newspapers, tímarit.is, actually shows the most results for "Bjarni Ben" by decade between 1940-1970, prior to the birth of Bjarni Benediktsson (1970). https://timarit.is/?q=%22bjarni+ben%22&size=10&isAdvanced=false&lang=en Snævar (talk) 19:58, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose "Bjarni Ben" is a colloquial nickname. He's never referred to as such in any formal context, nor in most news coverage. It'd be the equivalent to moving the article on George W. Bush to "Dubya". TKSnaevarr (talk) 23:33, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose for the same reasons given by Snævar and TKSnaevarr. "Bjarni Ben" is sometimes used in news, but not consistently or predominantly enough, and apparently, the nickname was also used for the older Bjarni Benediktsson, so it doesn't lend itself for a disambiguation.
