Marching band a fine art?
[edit]Should marching band really be classified under the fine art category? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Humanivorous (talk • contribs) 04:56, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Marching band list
[edit]I wanted to say that there are other bands (Reagan HS in San Antonio and Saginaw HS in Saginaw (Texas), among others) that have a list of their shows with information. I respect the decision to delete, but I do feel that cutting the marching band section down that size is a bit excessive. again, totally respectful, and really just asking what we can do TheLethalTexan (talk) 12:47, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
- If other high school articles have similarly non-encyclopedic (and unsourced) lists of shows those sections should probably also be removed. "Other stuff exists" or conversely, "other stuff stuff does not exist", are not very powerful arguments.
- You are the band's historian [1], so you have a conflict of interest in writing about the band on Wikipedia. Please read and follow WP:COI. You added more than a third of the article's total length in giving us an unsourced list of shows that I doubt anyone not associated with your school cares about. Wikipedia is not the place for your band to publicize itself. In general, we don't mention specific extracurricular competitions unless a school wins at the highest possible level (generally a state championship). Has the marching band won any major titles? We don't list every game a high school team has played, or every play a drama department puts on. The school might be interested, but almost no-one else is. Give us some information that general readers might be interested in: How big is the marching band? Does it perform at school games or is it only a competitive band? Who organizes the competitions, and what classification is the band in? Are there any students who have to participate as part of their courses? And make sure the information is sourced to reliable sources. Meters (talk) 19:44, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
- Completely understand, did not see it in that way. Thank you, and happy editing in future. TheLethalTexan (talk) 19:52, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
- And please don't use WP:POV puffery such as "The Birdville High School Mighty Hawk Band is renowned for its impressive performances." Meters (talk) 19:47, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
