Which Oakland?
[edit]There are three (count 'em, three) "Oakland"s in Wisconsin. Any idea WHICH he was born in? Badbilltucker 13:15, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- You can also add 2 more Oakland, Wisconsin-2 unincorporated communities in 2 different counties. Thank you-RFD (talk) 12:27, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- No specifics, but according to a SABR bio here, he was born in Oakland, Wisconsin; however, he was went to high school at Fort Atkinson. It can only be conjecture, but I assume, he was born in the closest farm community called Oakland.Neonblak talk - 12:34, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- I found an article from the Milwaukee Journal January 29, 1965 about the death of Billy Sullivan. This confirms he was born in Jefferson County in the town of Oakland. I added it to the article. Thank you-RFD (talk) 17:41, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Requested move 11 April 2024
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus that the existing title is ambiguous enough as to require a more detailed DAB. An alternate title using "(1900s catcher)" as the DAB was proposed on grounds of WP:NCBASE, but opinions were divided on whether that would convey an appropriate impression of this figure's era of play. I see no consensus on the specific question of Billy Sullivan (baseball, born 1875) vs. Billy Sullivan (1900s catcher), but because of the consensus against retaining the current title, this ends up requiring a WP:NOTCURRENTTITLE close. Accordingly, I'm opting to close in favor of the original proposal: many of the support !voters did not specify a preferred DAB, even after the alternate DAB was proposed, which suggests to me that there's a high level of general contentment around the originally proposed title. Billy Sullivan (baseball) → Billy Sullivan (baseball, born 1875) – avoid confusion with Billy Sullivan Jr. Joeykai (talk) 02:49, 11 April 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Natg 19 (talk) 23:35, 18 April 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. BilledMammal (talk) 03:52, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- He was also an "1890s catcher", so I am not sure that format works here. Dekimasuよ! 06:23, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- WP:NCBASE uses the wording "predominantly played in a single decade" - clearly, careers will not entirely fit into one decade most of the time. 162 etc. (talk) 14:00, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- He was also an "1890s catcher", so I am not sure that format works here. Dekimasuよ! 06:23, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- Comment, maybe they should both be disambiguated as per NCBASE above, Jr. is also sometimes called just Billy Sullivan.--Ortizesp (talk) 12:43, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support the 1875 one has 154 views but Billy Sullivan Jr. has 39[[1]] which probably isn't enough for a PDAB. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:24, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose as unnecessary WP:OVERPRECISION. There's no confusion. These are two different titles and both are very lightly viewed, with no evidence anyone landing on this article wants the other. And for the very rare reader, a hatnote is already in place. Station1 (talk) 05:01, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
- Support, since Ortizesp indicated that Billy Sullivan Jr. has sometimes been called just Billy Sullivan. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:14, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
- Support per nom and BarrelProof. Clearly ambiguous. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:41, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
Post-RM comment
[edit]@BarrelProof:@Necrothesp:@Crouch, Swale:@Ortizesp:@Joeykai:@Dekimasu: WP:NCBASE asks us to use date of birth disambiguation only as a last resort. Any objection to using the preferred disambiguation as shown under bullet point 4, Billy Sullivan (1900s catcher)? 162 etc. (talk) 22:28, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- No objection from me. — BarrelProof (talk) 22:59, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Seems fine though I don't know a lot about NC so I'll go with it if that's what people think. Crouch, Swale (talk) 07:37, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- No objection. Ortizesp (talk) 15:56, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Consensus to use Billy Sullivan (1900s catcher), moved. 162 etc. (talk) 20:22, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
