Bill isn't a native of Ruston. He is from nearby Dubach.

The "aneurysm" claim in the Schneider article is not sourced. There have been no reasons given for Doss's death. This is irresponsible, sloppy work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.204.241.193 (talk) 02:04, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Needs Major Work

[edit]

Once again I made secrions and moved things so they are at least in chronological order. Still a mess though with huge gaps in info. Ridernyc 18:49, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Birth and age

[edit]

News reports are variously reporting his age as 40, 41, 42, and 43, with 40 and 43 being the most frequent. Green Cardamom (talk) 03:14, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He is almost certainly born in September 1971, as the Wikipedia page had long reported, until someone today erroneously changed it. The reason as follows: this page (Olivia Tremor Control home page from archive.org) says that Bill was in the same class as other members of the band, playing together first in 9th grade, and the other members of the band are all born in 1970 or 71. Since we can assume Bill or his friends and family would have corrected any errors in the Wikipedia page which was active for years, I'm going to switch it back to how it was, but retain the cite needed tag. Things are more complicated since oliviatremorcontrol.com is reporting he was born in 1968, as reported in Rolling Stone and SPIN. This contradicts the bands own history page, which says Doss was in the 9th grade class as other members born in 1971, and the Wikipedia page which had the 1971 date unchallenged for many years. It would make Doss the only band member not born in 1970/71. Green Cardamom (talk) 06:36, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The 1986 Ruston High school yearbook is available on Classmates and while Jeff Mangum (pp 89,119) and Robert Schneider (pp 39,92) both appear the Freshman section, neither Will Cullan Hart, nor Bill Doss appear anywhere in the index of the yearbook nor in any of the class photo sections, so either he did not go to Ruston or had already graduated by 1986, and thus was not a Freshman with Mangum and Schneider at Ruston High. The only published year of his birth other than wiki is at oliviatremorcontrol.com, and I would guess they have inside knowledge better than guessing exactly who was a freshman in 1985 at Ruston High. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.130.32.63 (talk) 18:18, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
further the Page 6 of 33 1/2: the Aeroplane over the Sea states "A few years older, Bill Doss lived in Dubach a tiny town north of Ruston." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.130.32.63 (talk) 18:32, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe he was held back 3 years? Phantom Hoover (talk) 07:07, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I recall that in other articles about E6 it was mentioned that Doss was older. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.148.252.55 (talk) 17:02, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There was a memorial service for Bill at The Fabulous 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA on August 4. The announcement flyer gave his birth date as September 12, 1968, confirming he was 43 at the time of his death.
