Considered Line
[edit]The article states: "There are plans to restore the island platform at Beccles. The restoration of the former mainline from Beccles to Haddiscoe Station has been considered." Is this really the case? What advantage would that give? I suppose it could give a Norwich to Beccles service but other than that, I can't see what advantage it could give. Any additional info would be appreciated. LewisR (talk) 22:30, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
The proposals currently state that the passing loop be restored through Beccles station to allow hourly trains between Lowestoft & Ipswich as well as London to Liverpool Street (via Ipswich). This would re-open the island platform. It wouldnt include the restoration of any other closed lines though. However, the feasibility study did mention that problems of people crossing the line from the island would have to be addressed. The hourly service opened this morning: http://www.eadt.co.uk/news/suffolk_problems_remain_as_beccles_rail_loop_opens_on_east_suffolk_line_1_1736970 For a year, hourly services left Ipswich, half of them turning at Saxmundham. I intend to brush up the tenses on the article.Smlark (talk) 18:57, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Smlark, the hourly service from Ipswich to Saxmundham started in December 2010, not December 2011. Rushey Platt (talk) 20:25, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
