KL divergence
[edit]Is it really true that U(y,E) can be written as the KL divergence? The difference of the entropies of prior and posterior could be negative, whereas the KL cannot. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.235.106.89 (talk) 18:10, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
- I was really confused by that. Indeed, the difference of entropies is not the KL divergence. I think that what is actually meant is that you can use a different definition of the utility, which is the KL divergence. The wording was very misleading. I felt confident enough in my understanding to change the text. --Arthurprat (talk) 17:11, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

[edit]I don't think this article belongs in the Bayesian Inference one. I guess the implication is that BED is an instance of Bayesian Inference, but it isn't really. BED takes a Bayesian approach to maximizing the utility of an design, which must then be executed. This makes it quite a different task than the inference problem, though the techniques for solving the design problem (eg, MCMC) are often similar to Bayesian inference, due to both requiring the solving of nontrivial integrals. I think this should be left as a stub, and hopefully a proper article can be written on the subject. --142.103.8.37 22:38, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
- I totally agree that the article should remain a separate entry. I'm currently currently working on a PhD in experimental design, I should probably put some useful content in here one of these days...
- Ok, I've in put a general theoretic description, along with some references to (well-referenced) academic publications. --Winterfors (talk) 20:39, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
