[edit]I remember reading about this in 19th century literature. I wish I could remember which book it was. I think it was Charles Dickens? Anyway, the main character is a politician who refuses to kiss the babies. After being spoken to by his campaign manager, who tries to persuade him to kiss one or two, he goes back out and kisses all of the babies. --New Thought (talk) 08:43, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- I have found it! It's in The Pickwick Papers (1836) - search for the following text here: He has kissed one of 'em New Thought (talk) 13:22, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Not just America
[edit]Examples provided are mostly American, but it is a worldwide phenomenon. Even Stalin and Hitler held children for photoshoots.--MacRusgail (talk) 17:00, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Baby kissing → handshaking and baby kissing – Handshaking is included. Politicians are known for shaking hands and kissing babies. Nothing is currently written in the article about the handshakes, but that is because the present title doesn't allow it to be discussed. Marsbar8 (talk) 01:52, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- Weak oppose: It's not clear to me that the article should discuss handshaking in addition to baby kissing. It currently doesn't mention handshaking at all. Should it also talk about hugging? Cheek-kissing? Fist-bumping? High-fiving? Bowing? — BarrelProof (talk) 05:01, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
