English spelling

[edit]

The "Azar-" spellings need, for the most part, to be changed to "Azer-"... I don't know why people have insisted upon transliteration of the Iranian form when there is an actual English form that appears in English dictionaries. The Behnam 16:15, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are right; my mistake! How can I change it to Azer-?? Berzefir 20:31, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Encyclopedia of Islam uses Azarbaijan. I don't think Azer is an English word either. But either name is fine but there is no actual English form (there are ranked in popularity)but one of the correct forms would actually be the one used in Encyclopedia of Islam and other such encyclopedias..--alidoostzadeh 02:19, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Doostzadeh, the name of Persian language is Farsi in academia too, nevertheless Persian is used to refer to it in Wikipedia. Azerbaijan is a spelling under which the name of the country is recognized by international law, United Nations, and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Finally, Google hits returns 192,000 links for "Azarbaijan" and 70,900,000 for "Azerbaijan". Atabek (talk) 16:43, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Andranikpasha, the reference you selectively placed in this article (ignoring mildly the facts of mass-exodus of Kurds from Armenian occupied territories in 1992-1993), are about Republic of Azerbaijan not about Iranian Azerbaijan discussed in this article. Atabek (talk) 16:46, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Atabek you can use either Ali or Ali Doostzadeh or Mr./Dr. Doostzadeh. As per international name, the name of the provinces in Iran are spelled as East Azarbaijan and West Azarbaijan [1]. That is how the current Islamic republic of Iran uses it. And the United nations recognizes the naming convention also set by Iran with regards to its own provinces. So since you seem to be into international law, UN, governments and etc., that is the proper spelling that the Iranian government utilizes. Based on google, "West Azarbaijan" gets more than "West Azerbaijan". Else in most Kurdish dialects, it would also be spelled with "e". The article was created by the person about the 2-3 millions Kurds in the provinces of Iranian Azarbaijan (mainly in West Azarbaijan province between lake Urmia and the Turkish-Iranian border) and so it is not about the country of Azerbaijan. --alidoostzadeh (talk) 17:25, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do "Azarbaijan" and "Azerbaijan" mean different things? I believe both versions of the title originate from Atropatene, don't they? Atabek (talk) 23:34, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes they are the same word. Of course vowels differ and you might even find dialects of Persian that might tend to "e" rather than "a". Indeed most dialects of Kurdish use: Azerbeycan. The word Azar though in standard Persian means fire (others might say Adir/Azer even) and it is from Atar/Atra found in Atropat (the name occurs in the Avesta). The word "Azer" in standard Persian does not have a particular meaning, but the "zer" part might sound weird to a standard Persian speaker because zer means to groan/bemoan/cry. The word Azaar (note the double aa as in the word Jaan(life)) means to bother someone. That is probably why the Iranian government uses the words East Azarbaijan and West Azarbaijan when spelling it, since it sounds natural based on the phonetics of Tehrani Persian. --alidoostzadeh (talk) 00:09, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

An article with many claims and opinions, without much reference.

[edit]

This article needs a complete clean up to be balanced. Claiming that major East Azerbaijani cities like Bonab and Maragheh were Kurdish simply is not supported by any fact. Nore does the figures given for poplulation. I have placed the request for citation on few paragraphs but a lot more need to be done. --Zaman (talk) 17:11, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology

[edit]

This section is not related in Kurdish people in the Azerbaijan (Iran). Takabeg (talk) 09:32, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Then,it is related to which Azerbaijan? Which Azerbaijan do you mean?--Orartu (talk) 15:27, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How can I improve this article when I can't add references ?

[edit]

One of the major problems that this article have , is lack of references . Then why when I want to add a reliable source , it is deleted :[2] and [3]? Is it right to consider the article for deletion because it has no reference , and when someone adds reference , the person who nominate the article for deletion , erasing the sources ?--Alborz Fallah (talk) 07:09, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You want to add unrelated materials. If you are right bring reliable sources for mentioned claims.--Orartu (talk) 07:18, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Iranica is one of the best sources available for citing . There is clearly written the Kurdish tribes of Azerbaijan . How can you say that is unrelated ? The topic is Azarbaijani Kurds , the Kurdish tribes of Azerbaijan is related : Isn't it ? --Alborz Fallah (talk) 07:27, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You only can add current kurds not turkicized kurds.Their issue is completely different. Also you must bring sources about kurds in Azarbaijan not Azerbaijan. Then accroding this all sources are unreliable but I don't delete them because I don't want to deny attendance of Kurds, I want some neutral of these materials be part of Kurds in Iran neutrally.--Orartu (talk) 07:46, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That is an Encyclopedia. That means when we are talking about Kurds in Azerbaijan , we can write about the tribes that their language has been changed . Azerbaijan and Azarbaijan are alternative dictations of one word . --Alborz Fallah (talk) 08:07, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, the word used in Iranica is Azerbaijan not Azarbaijan.Like Persian and Iranian words, they didn't let me to change persian word to Iranian(when it means iranian) because in source the word persian has come. This article is problamatic and confusing but Kurds in Iran is neutral and correct. The word Azarbaijan, itself is also politically motivated too, about your statement "It is not correct to nominate the article for deletion because it don't have reliable sources" you must remember that your this statement contradicts your statements hereWikipedia:Articles for deletion/Genocide of Azerbaijani people in Iran. This article have alot of problems, one of them is lack of reliable source.--Orartu, (talk) 08:17, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The alternative dictation is not of a problem and the source can be used . The word Persian may have two translations according to usage : Iranian or ethnic Persian . That is not the same in the word Azerbaijan and that is equivalent to Azarbaijan.--Alborz Fallah (talk) 08:51, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You must find sources about Azarbaijani Kurds, which is the title of article, you cannot bring wrong sources. The word Azarbaijan is politically motivated, and the situation of word Azerbaijan is as same as word Persian.Look at here Saib Tabrizi, is he persian ethnic or Iranian Azerbaijani ethnic? Look at your edit and your comment[4] --Orartu (talk) 08:54, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It is unrelated , but Saeb is born in Isfahan , they name him Tabrizi because he spend all of his life in Tabriz , same as Mollana , whose alternative name is Rumi .--Alborz Fallah (talk) 09:12, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
He was born in Isfahan, but this issue does not mean he is Persian ,his ethnic is Azerbaijani, like Albert Camus who was born in Algeria but he is French, not Algerian.Saeb has spent most of his life in India and Isfahan not Tabriz.--Orartu (talk) 09:19, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
