Marching Band

[edit]

Why does the table in the marching band section necessitate the 2008 row with the TBA's? Wouldn't it be better to just add that row once the actual performance is announced? Cbragg (talk) 02:06, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see why the reader needs to know all the themes of the Athens marching band. Also, I tagged it for peacock terms, for saying it is "award-winning" while not specifying any specific awards that it has won. I really don't see, from the section, why the Athens Marching Band is so notable or why it necessitates its own section while other extracurricular activites offered at Athens do not. I tagged the list of themes and drum majors (which I think are unnecessary) for unencyclopedic content as well. Beggarsbanquet (talk) 05:13, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's all part of promoting the band. Why can't Athens be proud of their marching band? The band always finishes in the top ten in the state at State Finals. And they march in the Detroit Thanksgiving Day parade and parades at Disney World. There is more to tell about the band than some of the other activities. This is the best way to keep a small record of the band's history so that everyone can see it and be aware of the marching band. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.192.19.138 (talk) 14:29, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can be proud of your band, but that does not make it notable or encyclopedic. As the last person pointed out, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a promotion page. Also, please do not remove tags until there has been a discussion with consensus that they are not needed. I am reverting your edits that removed them. If this removal continues, I will semi-protect this page.
On entirely different note, I decided to merge the Marching Band section into the Extracurriculars section, get rid of the list of themes which is irrelevant to an encyclopedia (and with it the unencyclopedic tag), and add a short blurb about the most recent theme to the second paragraph. I kept the peacock terms tag for the section. Beggarsbanquet (talk) 03:38, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alumni

[edit]

Are all the alumni truly notable? I've never heard of specific "Desi VJs" on MTV, so I have to wonder if someone just added themself or their friend to the page. Also, the Notre Dame football player guy; if he doesn't have his own article, he probably isn't notable. Beggarsbanquet (talk) 05:18, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the alumni who do not have their own Wikipedia pages, since I think they may be non-notable or made-up alumni. If you have reason to believe they should be re-added, please re-add them with citations or links to pages on Wikipedia. Beggarsbanquet (talk) 04:19, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Someone doesn't know how to cite

[edit]

Fixed citation in Extracurricular Activities section, which linked to another site where it should have provided a citation. Beggarsbanquet (talk) 03:50, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
