Yes Assassins Creed is supposed to be a Trilogy.

I fail to understand why people immediatly jump to the conclusion that the game ended just like that, thinking the story was over. To put sophisticatedly and wikipedialy though, most of the complainers are in the North America region, where the people have a thirst for complaining so deep that it clouds their interpretation. <small>—Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.21.154.108 (talk) 19:08, 3 January 2008 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Sequel?

Does anyone know if there going to make a sequel to the game? Cuase i think they really need to, the game left off at a cliffp-hanger in my opinion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.214.76.123 (talk) 06:46, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.21.154.108 (talk) 19:08, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So you're complaining about people complaining? Anyway, this isn't really the place to ask questions like this, it's a talk page for an encyclopedia, not a discussion board. But to answer your question, no announcement has been made to my knowledge. Morte42 (talk) 02:24, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, that's awfully stereotypical of you. Instead of complaining about what North Americans act like, try posting some helpful information. Burn N Flare (talk) 02:06, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotect this page

Why is this page protected? I have never seen such a low-level article uneditable by the community. I wanted to make an edit to add the city of Arsuf, which is not mentioned in the list of other cities in the game (Jerusalem, Acre, Damascus, etc.). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.218.61.4 (talk) 14:34, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jade Raymond vs. Lowtax

http://www.n4g.com/News-84935.aspx Should this affair be incorporated into the article? Xuxunette (talk) 06:35, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's more about Jade and/or Something Awful and should be in those articles respectively - while it's tied to the release of ACreed, it's not a significantly notable aspect of it. --MASEM 06:38, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spoiler

How about a spoiler alert here? Mallerd (talk) 16:03, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not a good idea. J-ſtanTalkContribs 19:18, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay Mallerd (talk) 22:08, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why not? The story bit is revealing all of the secrets of the game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MaxUrai (talkcontribs) 16:55, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
WP's policy on spoilers is that by coming to an encyclopedia to read about a topic, you should fully expect to be told spoilers and other twists relating to that topic, and thus the spoiler warning is implicit in the use of WP. --MASEM 17:34, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why not also? "It is not acceptable to delete information from an article about a work of fiction because you think it spoils the plot. Such concerns must not interfere with neutral point of view, encyclopedic tone, completeness, or any other element of article quality (for example, WP:LEAD)". Quoted from here. Genetic Memory Problem

Followed the wiki link and discovered that genetic memory is a concept in Jungian psychology. I just have one tiny issue with it.

So, AC says that our DNA has the memories of our ancestor's right? Naturally our parents are our most recent ones. What happens if someone does not grow up with their parents I mean, life goes on, and as the years go by they have their own memories. Will those memories show up in the child's DNA as well or, will it be the memories up until the point the child was born?

Even if we are only talking the mind here, I have somewhat of an issue with it. Its an interesting idea, but, to suggest that our DNA has ALL of our ancestor's memories, not just the memories up until the point of conception (if its our father), and the memories during gestation (our mother) suggests that human DNA is tied to the very fabric of whatever makes up the cosmos.

Then again, Assassin's Creed IS sci fi, after all. The idea is very interesting. Interesting, but more in the realm of physics than either psychology or biology, although, it would need input from both those sciences. 206.63.78.91 (talk)stardingo747 —Preceding comment was added at 13:05, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its just a game John.n-irl (talk) 22:41, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
genetic memory has no scientific basis. Concepts like these are generally created/continued by people who don't really understand what genetics is/how chemistry and physics work. So it would be more likely to be in the realm of fantasy... :P —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.78.137.105 (talk) 00:47, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, the concept of genetic memory is gaining ground in the scientific community for things such as the innate fear of heights and separation. However, it generally doesn't apply to specific memories such as what's being invoked for this game. At any rate, this is probably a better discussion for an internet forum. Axem Titanium (talk) 01:29, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's simply evolutionary psychology. You can call it memory if you like, but it's rather misleading, certainly. :-) Evercat (talk) 02:22, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't read the Jungian psychology, but my first reaction is that you don't know/see (including that bartender guy) everything in Altaïr's life. So perhaps if this was the case, because if we could probably see him have sexual intercourse, and the story continues, you would have been right. Mallerd (talk) 15:51, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Whether or not Genetic Memory is possible in this world or not is not the question. In the game world, it is fact, so we must look at it from that point of view. That said, Assassin's Creed never says the children have memories after the point of conception. They merely state that every person has the memories of their ancestors stored in their genetic code. If we are to apply real biological science to this concept, I would theorize that the children have their parents' memories up to the last point the parents reached REM sleep. I say this because REM sleep is when the mind processes the day's activities and actually forms the long-term memories. However, this is all supposition about a fictional work, so anyone could be right, as UBI hasn't specified one way or another. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CatoNovus (talkcontribs) 16:32, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The important thing is the animus thingy in the game uses unspecified technology, if you have a device which it is not specified how it works or what it actually does it there is no reason why it cannot somehow extract your ancestors past memories, because as it is not specified how it works it could theoretically do anything. Secndly the idea of memories being stored in genetics is probably a bit wacky and I dont think it could ever be the case to the degree in this game, however our memories must be partly chemical and biological (otherwise how could they exist? memories arent just ieces of air), and if memories are biological as is really the only scientific explanation, there must be genetic coding for them, it this coding could be discovered in theroy it would be possible to discover memories, but I doubt they could ever be made visual, and would be purely biological in the sense that for instance they could tell us that at the age of 45 Joe Smith had an increse in his blood sugar levels.172.142.93.203 (talk) 18:00, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the more important points are 1)Its just a game, not reality. 2)Who really cares? and 3) Wikipedia talk pages are not forums. There are plenty of discussion forums online for both the game and Jungian psychobabble this discussion should be taking place on instead of here.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 18:11, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Character section?

Should I add one? Ominae (talk) 15:48, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe there's enough of a need for one. --MASEM 13:18, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You mean the characters from the game won't be enough? Or should I wait for the ones from the sequel? Ominae 08:36, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Character sections are not always necessary if you can cover the key details in the plot section. Remember that WP is not meant to describe every detail of the game's story, and I don't believe there's enough really noteworthy stuff outside of what the plot already says to require one. --MASEM 14:40, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Game Issues

Has anyone else had any problems with this game, that is, freezing and huge frame rate issues? It's frozen up one me a few times, and has crashed. I have to restart the console to try and "fix" it. (I own a ps3 by the way). I've been reading around on the internet, and it seems the problem is on xbox 360 as well, but is far more prominent on ps3. [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]. Any info on patches or whatever would be helpful for the article, and disgruntled gamers like me. - Alice Mudgarden (talk) 07:58, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For future reference, wikipedia is not a forum, the disscusion is improvement of the article. As for a patch, http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5251069024/m/3361042116. Nauto (talk) 21:04, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I already know that Wikipedia is not a forum. Hence I did not start a discussion in the style of a forum thread; I asked if any other editor on Wikipedia had the problem. The reason I put down sources about the issues was so that other editors would read them, and try and discuss whether such a serious issue merits a mention in the article - which it does. Obviously the discussion that was started was created to improve the article; so instead of being so quick to try and stamp out some sort of "authority" that you have, you may want to actually think a little before typing. In conclusion, I must request you confer your eloquent witticisms and stark indignation upon other individuals. - Alice Mudgarden (talk) 05:32, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies for jumping the guns, it was not meant to be a insult. Please don't take it personally, my mistake. I mis-read your post. Your post looked like a forum disscusion at first, that why.Nauto 23:33, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you did.--Hammerandclaw (talk) 23:14, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think something that should be mentioned in the article is that on the Xbox 360 there's a bug that causes the penultimate chapter of the game to stick and much weirdness to ensue, including multiple Altairs and the inability to get to the assassination target. This bug is caused by having multiple controllers powered on during play. Players need to be sure that only one gamepad is active when playing.

Both formats have technical issues and we all know that. Why does the article only mention the PS3 as the console with the only problems?--WhereAmI (talk) 22:14, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stealth Game?

There is very little stealth involved in the actual game, there are bits and peices, I have mostly seen it listed as an Action/Adventure game, and Ubisoft just calls it an Action game. Therefore, I think it fitting to change the article to call it an action game, not a stealth game. Arrowdynamicsx (talk) 00:32, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is stelth in the fact that you have to hide to Excape Prosuers72.230.63.44 (talk) 11:26, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

But if the creators of the game classify it as an action game, it is an action game —Preceding unsigned comment added by NIKKKIN (talkcontribs) 12:19, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Calling it stealth because you have to hide to escape pursuers would also mean that "Grand Theft Auto" is a stealth game - Klasanov —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.21.214.129 (talk) 05:34, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, it doesn't really fit the style of a stealth game - it's not Metal Gear Solid, where stealth is the primary focus. Though it has stealth elements, I would personally classify it as a more general Action/Adventure game. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:59, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Altair's Marks?

Since Ubisoft originally made a big deal about the historical accuracy (to an extent) of the game, would it be worth it to give each target a short blurb? Not all of them have their own articles.

Ex: Garnier de Naplouse (aka Garnier of Nablus) was Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller until 1192. I'm not sure his status as leader of the order is ever explicitly stated in-game, but it's certainly an interesting fact for anyone that cares, but requires a little bit of digging outside of this article. Particularly due to the fact that someone somewhere (pardon me) claimed that all of Altair's targets were real people who died or disappeared in 1191 (this was before the game came out I believe), when this isn't always the case. I believe Garnier and Robert de Sable are the exceptions.

Thoughts? Viserys89 (talk) 07:30, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds really good, I'd say just go for it. Virus of Profanity

I think Garnier de Naplouse did die in 1191, assuming the Cartulaire General de l'Ordre des Hospitaliers de S. Jean de Jerusalem is accurate. Perhaps it is just Robert Sable that's the exception. Either way, it's a good idea to stick a little paragraph for each of the targets. Geht (talk) 06:11, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not-So-Cryptic Messages

I just jointed up a few minutes ago to add the decoded messages found on the floor of the Animus room to the page, not realizing that its semi-protected, so if anyone gets to this before I reach the point I can add it in myself, they are as follows.

The pyramid shaped block of English text can be read when viewed standing on the barcode beneath it. Follow the letters from the bottom right corner going upwards, moving left one line when finished. The message reads: "they/drained/my/soul/and/made/it/theirs/i/drain/my/body/to/show/where/i/saw/it"

The square shaped block of English text can be read when viewed standing on the pyramid of eyes beneath it. Follow the letters from the bottom right corner going upwards, moving left one line when finished. The message reads: "artefacts/sent/to/the/skies/to/control/all/nations/to/make/us/obey/a/hidden/crusade/do/not/help/them"

Also, I guess as a joke, by the window to the observation room, you can find the word annoying(spelt "anoying", probably to make it all fit in line) written backwards and half of it above the other half.

Hope that cures any curiosity. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CatoNovus (talkcontribs) 16:54, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 • Additionally "The Eagle and the Apple - 1191" more likely refers to Altaïr (Eagle) and the Piece of Eden (Apple). The fruit of the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden is usually depicted as an apple. Also, Al Mualim implies that the object was the culprit for "the machinations of Eris" regarding the Trojan war, i.e., the Apple of Discord. Khakain (talk) 08:15, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did you find the secret message in one of Lucys emails where the CAPITAL letters spelt out WE WL BE THERE SOON. Ive hidden a similar one in this post. - CROC —Preceding unsigned comment added by Croc239 (talkcontribs) 16:00, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I caught it, but I figured that it didn't have much importance to the story. You get to hear the attack and everything as it happens, and the email to Lucy is timestamped previous to the forementioned attack, so it seems that this little tidbit is just to let you know Lucy is a member of the Assassin's, which you find out anyway in a cutscene. CatoNovus 10:18, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why do people keep editing this out saying its a game guide? I'm not telling people how to play or where secrets are located, I'm just telling them what the hidden messages they do find say. Could someone tell me how that's a game guide? CatoNovus (talk) 07:20, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It falls somewhere between a game guide (telling people what "secrets" are in the game), too much plot detail, and speculation. We are not here at WP to report details of a game's plot, we're here to state what this game is and why is it notable in the real world. Even right now, despite that being partially my own plot writing, the plot section is still too long and needs to be cut down. There is no significance on the real-world impact of that game of the meanings of the cryptic messages (at present, assuming a sequel, that may change). As such it then is more trivial than important to the article's coverage. --MASEM 14:28, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism of reviews

http://www.penny-arcade.com/2007/11/14 Penny arcade had something to say about the reviews that describe the game as being repetitive. About how the reviewers had a deadline that significantly altered their perception of the game. --68.176.139.75 (talk) 16:29, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PA is a self-published source and not the best to use to describe the critiques of the reviews; however, I would suggest keeping an eye open from someone at Ubisoft/Ubisoft Montreal to see if they state the same thing, which would then be cite-able and quotable within the article. --MASEM 16:41, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spoiler Alert

I have played about half of the game, so the spoilers at the beginning do not really matter, but the fact that there is a huge twist and chance for a spoiler five minutes into the game does not change the fact that there should be a spoiler alert. I'm new to Wikipedia, so forgive me if I missed something, but the little things like spoiler alerts go a long ways. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by WesTheOmniscient (talkcontribs) 00:10, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We don't bother with spoiler tags in places like the plot section because the concept of spoilers in a plot section is glaringly obvious.—Loveはドコ? (talkcontribs) 01:02, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Parkour

I beleive that all instances of the term free running should be changed to parkour because parkour is what altair uses. View the wiki pages for both and you will get my point.

~While that may be true, Parkour wasn't technically around when he was, so Desmond probably knows Parkour and uses it through Altair. We never do see how Altair fights or moves without Desmond controlling him, now that I think about it... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.151.114.64 (talk) 20:05, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Parkour was not around in the late 1100s. "Free-running" is ok to use here. And we don't know what Desmond knows or doesn't know. Altair was probably trained to climb on buildings. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.21.214.129 (talk) 05:40, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name error

The wiki page states that "(الطائر, Arabic, "The Flying One")" The official game manual states that "Altair lbn La-Ahad ("Son of None")".

"Son of none" is for his surname, not his given name of Altaïr.—Loveはドコ? (talkcontribs) 06:50, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Assassin's Creed

I thought it would be nice to actually see the three tenets that Assassins are based on. I would understand if it is not of any actual relevance, but it's still something worth seeing.

Three Tenets

1. Stay your blade from the flesh of the innocent 2. Hide in plain sight (Can add on this part) Let the people mask you as such you become one with crowd. 3. Never compromise the brotherhood

Just something to add and for a source we can try to get the sound file from the game since this occurs within the very first memory block during the time that Altair is being scolded by Al Mualim for his acts of treason. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shadow3003 (talkcontribs) 23:04, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Translations

i dont know how it would necisarrily be done, but i think it would be nice to have a translation somewhere on all the asian writing on the walls. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.92.11.49 (talk) 00:46, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the fact that its a host of foreign languages from all over the world would make that a fairly difficult task. Plus that could be considered original research, which is against Wikipedia policy. Ferdia O'Brien (Talk) 00:51, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Translations aren't necessarily OR, but the main question would be whether they're necessary to understand the game as a whole. I strongly believe that they're NOT necessary. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 19:54, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lucy the assassin?

I'm not trying to turn this into something I could simply ask elsewhere, but this part troubles me. Yes it is true that, as long as you obtain A pen, you can see an email addressed to her that certainly seems to be from the assassin's side. But what is this about Lucy waving her 'little finger' which indicated she was an assassin? Firstly, how are even able to notice that, and secondly (and most importantly:) where did it ever say that waving your fingers makes you an assassin?

Her ring finger was missing, and the Assassins removed the ring finger in order to to have their hidden blade, thus she is an assassin

...Really? I didn't know. Sorry, I looked around a bit and other people said that too, but where was it explained in the game? Or is it just common knowledge? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.21.154.108 (talk) 18:59, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Common knowledge to history buffs, yes.

"he is saved by Lucy Stillman, who reveals herself to be an Assassin by bending down her ring finger, to imply her membership." She didn't bend down her ring-finger, she was showing that she didn't have the finger. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.123.137.28 (talk) 04:56, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

American

I'm going to blame that on Desmond's mental connection to his ancestor through the Animus. He speaks through him, and hears his own voice. Frankly, I find it hard to believe that by 2012 we'll be able to control our ancestor's memories through practically a video game. J-ſtanContribsUser page 03:42, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's explained in the game: The Animus translates important phrases to modern English. It was a convenience in the plot that allowed for modern accents to appear as well. ...Midwestern? I take it you either didn't take history class, or failed it, or assume that Europe or the UK (+ France) are places in america.

You should never use on-line vendors for future release dates - they may simply be placeholders for an unknown date if only to drive pre-orders. --MASEM 16:26, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Development Section

This section is currently a bit of a mess, but i think there's still quite a bit of useful info in there. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can improve it?Ged UK (talk) 19:40, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Slight error

In the 'Plot' Section, it mentions that Altaïr discovers that his assignment was a ploy to unite the Muslims and Crusaders against the Assassins. This is not exactly what happened. In reality, it was Robert de Sable who tried to get the Muslims and Crusaders to unite against th Assassins, since by this time Altaïr had killed important figures on both sides, and Robert de Sable was trying to save himslef and the Templar Order by getting rid of the Assassins.

Wasn't it a ploy for Altair's leader to have Altair kill off the people who know of the 'sacred powerful item' so he could keep it to himself? —Preceding unsigned comment added by DrTheKay (talkcontribs) 18:34, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ubisoft blackballing?

So I was looking around the net today, and Dan Hsu has apparently stated that EGM has been "blacklisted" by Ubisoft because they didn't give such high scores to AC. This means that Ubisoft won't help them with previews or anything else relating to Ubisoft. Here's a link: http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/media-coverage-frozen-out-/71327/?biz=1. My question is: Should there be a section for this? CPTGbr (talk) 06:55, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese writing

Does anyone know what the Japanese(assuming its Japanese) on the wall above your bed means?--72.16.114.224 (talk) 04:58, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe this is covered further up on this talk page. Though the actual meaning of the writing is not all that important to this article - the general meaning of all of it is intended to be a vision of the future, or a prediction of the apocalypse, etc.
In any event, please add new threads to talk pages at the bottom of the page rather than the top, so we can keep threads in rough chronological order. Also, please keep in mind that article talk pages are not meant to be used as forums - this talk page is for discussing improvements to the article, not so much about the subject itself. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 19:01, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The text is definitely not Japanese but rather Classical Chinese. I did some googling of the text and found their origins:
 • The one at the very far right in the image is from the Analects of Confucius: wiktionary:人無遠慮,必有近憂 "If one does not have forethought, one will soon have worries." (This passage appears again in smaller text below the "13.0.0.0.0" and the Arabic text.)
 • The one just to the left of the previous one is a passage by Xun Zi: 不聞不若聞之,聞之不若見之,見之不若知之,知之不若行之。 "Not hearing is not as good as hearing; hearing is not as good as seeing; seeing is not as good as knowing; knowing is not as good as acting."
 • The one located at the top left of the image is from the Chinese translation of the Avatamsaka Sutra Buddhist texts: 若人欲了知,三世一切佛,應觀法界性,一切唯心造。 My ability to read Classical Chinese is not very good, and this passage is not as easy to read as the previous two, but I believe it translates into something like, "If one desires to understand, everything in the world is Buddha; observing the world, all is of one mind."
 • There's part of another passage at the very far left that's too blurry to make out.
Note that Classical Chinese is written top-to-bottom, right-to-left.

I found the correct translation for that Avatamsaka Sutra passage: "Replete with all knowledge, Buddha knows all things: In all lands, Everything is evident." I guess my translation wasn't that great. :) —Umofomia (talk) 14:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I corrected the article to refer to the Classical Chinese passages, but there's still this sentence with which I don't know what to do:
 • There is also reference to Yonaguni, a Japanese island.
To my knowledge, I don't see any reference to that island in the image. Can someone who knows Japanese verify? —Umofomia (talk) 14:58, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Either the image is too unclear for me to read (dramatic concentric stress lines!), or Yonaguni isn't in this shot. But I've heard stuff about Yonaguni being in it before it showed up Wikipedia; I don't doubt its existence but I can't find it in the image.—Loveはドコ? Rushed to meet a holiday release

http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=8601568&publicUserId=5379721 an interesting article that brings up some points about it, something about it should be added in the reception section to keep it somewhat neutral. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.209.233.100 (talk) 20:31, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
