Notes for Other Editors

[edit]

This has been a work all of my own up to this point, so I will leave a few pointers for other editors:

  • The title is up for debate. I've said "railways in Britain" rather than "British railways" to avoid confusing the general topic with one specific company. I'm not sure whether I want to cover the whole UK or just have Great Britain with Ireland being on a separate page. Then again, calling it an armorial is also debatable because
  • Many, perhaps most, of the examples are not true heraldry. A lot are pseudo-heraldry in various forms, and a lot are pictorial seals. This means that most of them do not have a blazon, and thus citation will be difficult. I would recommend reciting the full blazons of the true grants of arms (including the municipal arms that the company logos have copied) and then describing the rest in simple English as far as you can.
  • There are different ways to arrange the examples. Currently they are listed by era, but alternatively they could be done by region.

Hello @Robin S. Taylor:, I would like it if Irish railway companies' coats of arms were included as well. At the time most Irish coats of arms were created, Ireland was still part of the United Kingdom. Bernhard Rieger (talk) 19:26, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
