From the part that's been translated from the Dutch we can't tell whether he was fighting on the French or the British side at the Battle of Waterloo. The lack of military honors at his funeral might indicate something. ("Hij overleed op 8 juli 1863 en werd zonder militaire eerbewijzen begraven op Eik en Duinen"). There's also a special note that the Treasury did not object to issuing him his pension ("zonder bezwaar van de schatkist"). Since he was aide-de-camp to three Dutch kings the Dutch must have thought well of him later in life. If anybody has the sources we might know more.
