Mislabled Image

[edit]

The image labeled as a "Climate change denial" billboard seems to actually be supporting the idea of it's existence but claiming it is a warning from God about an oncoming apocalypse and not flat-out climate change denial.

Page needs review and massive revision

[edit]

As it has been raised a few times over the years (see archive), this page is a mix-up of anti-environmentalism proper (= a set of diverse social and political movements which may oppose this or that set of environmental ideologies or policies or environmentalism as a whole) with changes (curtailing) of environmental policies. The latter may result from anti-environmentalist pressures but should not be conflated with the same.

This confused scope has produced

  • a section HISTORY which hardly deals with the history of anti- environmentalism, rather reviews cursorily environmental policy changes in few countries.
  • Political perspectives - this should be a core section but is rather thin and unidirectional, simplistic ( anti-environmentalism equated with liberal ideologies, that is not the case everywhere)
  • Major conflicts _ some captures useful examples of A-E, others are straightforward environmentalist actions and associated conflicts
  • Global relations: very confused, outdated section which wants to be a proxy for climate change policy conflicts
  • Anti-environmentalism in the 21st century - another mixed bag of cases of environmental problems, policies an policy changes which diverge from the title of the page and what the focus should be.

I have just created the same page in the Italian version drawing from academic literature on the actual topic, and should there be interest in a collaboration among the curators of this page, I may lend a pen and an axe.

The page Environmental skepticism is much more on topic and the two pages may be merged (very little to draw from this page though, it is simply mostly off topic). Tytire (talk) 16:36, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If no objection, time permitting, I would rewrite the page as above. Tytire (talk) 21:51, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have translated the wp:it page here. My idea would be to replace almost entirely this page, keeping info related to the topic and eliminating the very extensive content related more to environmentalism than anti-E. Feedback welcome. Tytire (talk) 19:57, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I note here some items for further contributions:
- History - Canada: the section contained one para on the history of environmentalism rather than anti-E, however the source cited contains useful material to write a relevant country specific summary.[1]
I left the long array of local and national cases but IMO they still need review and many possibly deleting because OT, for the reasons I mention above, Tytire (talk) 22:04, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have eventually removed the "examples" most obviously OT. I have left a few which may lend themselves to cases of AE, however they should be refocused, they now mostly deal with policies against environmental protection, o reversal of environmental policies or environmental conflicts; the cases may be better presented to bring out the contributions of anti-environmentalist actors or ideologies.
