Dave Grohl
[edit]i could have swong dave grohl went to Thomas jefferson high school correct me if im wrong. im gonna put a tag on anyways. Jobe6 July 3, 2005 20:41 (UTC)
- Yep I think you're right, this washingtonpost.com article says:
By the way, an old pal of Grohl's says we got it wrong by saying Grohl grew up in Vienna, Va., saying he's a homeboy from Alexandria and Springfield. Anyway, Dave's management tells us that Dave went to Thomas Jefferson H.S. Kappa 3 July 2005 21:08 (UTC)
I don't know for certain. But Grohl's band, Mission Impossible was known as a Lake Braddock Band. They played the Burke community center with Dag Nasty back in '86. Ask me how I know! ;) Phreakster 1998 00:36, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
from what I know, Dave did go to Annandale for a year. His mom taught at AHS for a number of years, and I hear she still lives in the North Springfield Area —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.205.48.174 (talk) 21:01, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Add to WikiProject Schools
[edit]I'm not related the WikiProject but I am a student at this school. I just thought I would let you know that I'll try and put in some updates. Can anyone else help? -- (unsigned by PAE2008)
- Ok, if you go to this school, maybe you can answer a question I've had for awhile. I work for FCPS, but whenever I ask it gets blown off. Anyway, is it true that AHS was built with a bomb shelter/has a bomb shelter? I heard a rumor some time back that AHS had a bomb shelter with 60's rations still in it. If so, it would be great in a trivia section. KeepOnTruckin 02:40, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, AHS does have a bomb shelter located under the math hallway and I think there is also an enterance near the outside of the clinic. However, for obvious reasons, the area is off-limits and closed at all times. As for the 60's rations, I don't know if they are still there. This was previously reported in an edition of the A-Blast but their website doesn't appear to have it so I can't provide an online source.--PAE2008 22:08, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Oldest school
[edit]Oldest out of what? All schools? Schools in Virginia? Schools in Fairfax County? Annandale? -- (unsigned by Thomas Connor)
- One of the oldest schools in Fairfax County --PAE2008 16:13, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Annandale High School was the oldest High School in Fairfax County still in it's ORIGINAL building. When I was there (grad 1987) we had the 30th anniversary and this was the explanation at the time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.71.93.122 (talk) 17:23, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
A-Blast?
[edit]The A-Blast was named in the top 5 of all papers in the country? When? By whom? -- (unsigned by 128.143.231.234)
- I'm not sure but they are one of the top 25 in the nation after winning the 2005 Pacemaker award from the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA).[1] --PAE2008 16:18, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
New criticism section
[edit]I have some questions about the new criticism section under Annandale High School#Academic Programs.
- Some critics ... disagree with the school's lax policies toward advancing all students to their fullest potential.
- I think this means that the school is having trouble encouraging students to advance into the IB/AP/AVID programs. Am I correct?
- The IB program is highly advised towards certain groups of students
- I removed this text. What does it mean? Which groups of students are encouraged to join IB? Students with good grades?
- With the AVID and IB programs, smarter students are put into advanced classes whereas other students are in normal classes to which the No Child Left Behind Act is more prevalent.
- What does this mean? Does the NCLB act hurt the students in normal classes. What is the problem?

RE:New criticism section
[edit]I'll try and help clearify some of the information that I know but I don't have any written sources to quote.
- Some critics ... disagree with the school's lax policies toward advancing all students to their fullest potential.
- It is true that the school is having trouble encouraging students to advance into IB/AP. Many of the students that I know claim that the workload is too much and even unreasonable at times. However, Annandale's IB program is considered one of the best in the area, if not the country. This following article from the Washington Post may help to clairify the issue further.[1]
- The IB program is highly advised towards certain groups of students
- Yes, it is highly advised towards those that are currently involved in the IB program (those participating in Pre-IB) but the program is open to all who want to. I'm not sure to what level it is advised to those outside of the program, but usualy anyone with an 84% (a B on the FCPS grading scale) in any class is recomended.
- With the AVID and IB programs, smarter students are put into advanced classes whereas other students are in normal classes to which the No Child Left Behind Act is more prevalent.
- I'm afraid I don't know anything on this topic. As far as I know, Annandale doesn't have many problems with the NCLBA. There might be more information you can find in the school profile if you haven't checked that yet[2].
I hope this helps Arichnad. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help contribute. PAE2008 14:25, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Updates
[edit]Took out much of 'school summary'...turns out that was just copy/paste from the FCPS page profile. No citations and it sounded synthetic. Added A-blast data with citations. Updated school population.
Where did you get enrollment figures for all the years except for the last few?
Cleaned up a little bit around the TJ merger box. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.71.87.230 (talk) 22:31, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Do not merge Thomas Jefferson High School (pre-TJHSST) into Annandale. Thomas Jefferson was a high school for over twenty years before turning into TJHSST and sending the rest of its poplulation to Annandale. Pre-merger Annandale was one of Jefferson's biggest rivals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.176.188.16 (talk) 19:25, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Change name of page to "Annandale High School (Virginia)"
[edit]Since there are six towns/cities in America named Annandale and three more around the world,[1] I would like to suggest changing the name of the page from "Annandale High School" to "Annandale High School (Virginia)". Thoughts? - Dynamiccookies (talk | contribs) 21:48, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

I removed the RFC tag from the header. Use the WP:RM process to propose a title change (a move). But the real question whether there are other notable Annandale High Schools, not other Annandales. Dicklyon (talk) 02:44, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
