Update coordinates to reflect new location

[edit]

I believe the coordinates should be changed to reflect the new location. Currently they point to what looks like the old location on O'Connell Street. --David Edgar (talk) 18:47, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Good catch. Deor (talk) 19:24, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Anna Livia (monument)Floozie in the Jacuzzi – as the overwhelming WP:COMMONAME. The current title barely even qualifies as the WP:OFFICIAL name, since the artist himself used the nickname.
Google Books search for "Floozie in the Jacuzzi" gives 82 hits, whereas "Anna Livia monument" gives only 2 hits.
I also searched the Irish Independent website, where two terms come out about evenly, after excluding false positives. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 13:24, 6 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. When I search Google Books, I get 8 hits for "Eamonn O'Doherty" "Anna Livia" and only 2 for "Eamonn O'Doherty" "Floozie in the Jacuzzi". (Some of the hits for plain "Floozie in the Jacuzzi" refer to journal articles on the image of women in Irish culture, whose titles are obviously based on the statue's nickname but which may have little to do with the statue itself, and at least a couple deal with a similarly nicknamed sculpture in Birmingham's Victoria Square.) Even those sources that refer to the nickname make it clear that Anna Livia (or "the Anna Livia fountain") is the "real" name of the thing. Additionally, the nickname seems less appropriate for the sculpture in its current setting than it was for the former fountain in O'Connell Street. Deor (talk) 19:04, 6 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I might support a move to Anna Livia (sculpture), though. Deor (talk) 20:17, 6 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have notfied WikiProject Ireland. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:58, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
But the sculpture's not part of a fountain any longer—just propped up over a pool. Deor (talk) 17:38, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Strike that one, then :-) Come to think of it, "Floozie in the Jacuzzi" isn't appropriate any more either in that case, since the pool doesn't resemble a jacuzzi. It's a historical monniker every bit as much as "Anna Livia Fountain". On GB, "Floozie in the Jacuzzi" -"Anna Livia" Croppies did not match any book results. Other nickname

[edit]

The monument's other nickname, especially when the fountain became dirty with litter, was "the whore is the sewer", where whore is pronounced Irish-style to rhyme with sewer - hoo-er, as in "cute hoo-er". Marcas.oduinn (talk) 13:51, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

... said nickname quoted by Murry1975 above. Marcas.oduinn (talk) 13:54, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
