Notes

[edit]

Here are a few roles she's played for possible expansion, for which I can search for print sources once I get my WP:LIBRARY accounts set up.

  • Event organizer: Big Blues Blowout[1][2]
  • Tour producer: Bluzin the Northwest[3][4] "acclaimed success by sold out audiences"
  • Mentor and producer for United by Music and Music United Europe, assisting intellectually challenged stage musicians[5]
  • [6]
  • I'm not sure whether this is a weblog or RS.[7] As seen on her site, Midwest Records and Makin a Scene seem like weblogs. Tacoma Weekly might have just reposted the artists' given biographies, as cited in the article already.

Proposed Deletion

[edit]

This entry needs to be removed; it seems to exist solely to establish credibility for a woman currently involved in a lawsuit. The entry was only created after she made her charges against Lady Antebellum; further searches for information about her provide little to no information as to her notability. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.143.192.83 (talk) 03:33, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The artist does have a website at a domain that appears to have been registered since 2001 (ladyababyblues.com). YgFZAcpJUJ (talk) 19:05, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A suggestion for renaming articles

[edit]

Hello. I am very disappointed to see that Wikipedia has decided to give Lady Antebellum a group that only recently changed their racist name because of social pressure the top position under Lady A in your search. While giving Lady A AKA Anita White a Black female blues artists a lower billing and a page titled using only her given name instead. You even have the name controversy as part of her write up where she expresses concern for this very thing as her reason for trying to stop their taking her name. Anyone who understands algorithms gets the issue. I imagine wiki does more than I. I think you should look into who used the name first. She recorded at Motown Records under lady A & the Baby Blues funk band for 18 years starting in the 1980's and has performed under the name since. Far from a random sound cloud artist or random lounge singer. She is also a activist. With songs about police brutality predating the current uprising. She has 5 solo albums released under the name also. She has had that name since before Lady Antebellum's members entered grade school. The band claims ignorance in the crossover. That is not acceptable to anyone with logic in the days of google. Especially for people with managers and lawyers on staff. White had a back and forth where she offered to be Lady A the artist and they Lady A the band. They refused. Even that would have ruined the algorithm for her, but shows kindness and a clear willingness to work with them. Hence her extreme monetary request after they gave a terrible and unbinding offer in return. A fund of which half would have went to Charities. They feel it acceptable to wipe a almost 40 years recording Black musical artist off the map as part of their rebranding based off of BLM pointing out their racist name. Public pressure not their own conscience made them change it. Maybe they should have kept the old name . I hope that Wikipedia chooses to do the right thing in this. Clearly a group changing their racist name should not get to displace the very people they claim to be making the change for. This site matters. It's articles placement matters. When Lady Antebellum come up top spot in wiki searches for Lady A and that the same page is what Google suggests from your site for the name it helps erase a artists history when this page is to help record history. I hope for a reply with an explanation for why this is the current position and what will be done if anything about it. If you believe that "Lady A" needs to be moved to "Lady A (band)" and that "Anita White" needs to be at "Lady A" you can open a request to move these pages (following the instructions). But note that before you need to familirize with the Titling policy. © Tbhotch (en-3). 17:47, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

False Claim?

[edit]

It is stated that she was a member of a Motown group, yet as Motown is a well-established record label, there exist no evidence that she or a band with the name "Lady A & The Baby Blues Band" was ever signed to the label. Furthermore, no recordings or releases appear to exist, either. Is this a case of someone inflating their resume and importance for potential finanical gain in a highly questionable manner?

Speedy deletion

[edit]

I am allowed to request this, then admins decide. But I am allowed to request, so please follow the rules and do not remove the request

  • Yes you are. No you are not allowed to reinstate it after another editor reverts you. Those are the rules, and you should follow them. Also, it's foolish to pick a fight with an editor and then an administrator who have plenty experience here. Drmies (talk) 23:43, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Is it just me?

[edit]

Or does this entry read like a press release? Should it really be on Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.143.192.242 (talk) 22:38, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

– The controversy doesn’t preclude us to have two articles with the same title. The two entities clearly use the same name professionally so why should their articles not reflect that. She clearly uses her WP:NICKNAME professionally so it must be the name of her article. The band, however well-known only used the name recently so WP:RECENTISM is a factor. There is absolutely no reason why the two artists can’t share a name especially since they have settled it in a lawsuit. There is clearly WP:NOPRIMARYTOPIC with the name Lady A since the singer has used the moniker longer but since the band is more popular. • @Tbhotch: I find your comment that Her 15 minutes of fame evaporated in August 2020. to be disrespectfully dismissive. There are six citations in the article that predate 2020 & many after 2020. Perhaps you need to re-read WP:SINGLEEVENT to better understand to whom it does not apply. White has certainly received regional & genre coverage independent of Hillary Scott; Charles Kelley; David Haywood; and Lady A Entertainment LLC vs. Anita White. Peaceray (talk) 22:15, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yet I didn't nominate the article for deletion or claimed that she was not notable, did I? The page views and the minimal sources discussing her (and not the naming controversy) speak for itself. (CC) Tbhotch 00:54, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree 1, oppose 2. Anita White is better known as Lady A, so Lady A (singer) would be appropriate. Peaceray (talk) 19:52, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support 1, oppose 2 -- Seems like Anita is well known by her stage name, but not enough to be considered primary topic, by a long shot. So moving the first seems fine. The second proposal is a hard oppose, not only per the prior RM, but since then, while the lawsuit isn't what we use for naming policies, the fact that the suit was dropped does speak volumes about it circumstantial. Since the band is clearly primary, I oppose that move, but of course a hatnote would be expected to the singer. TiggerJay(talk) 02:26, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Relisting comment: There is rough consensus on moving Anita White to Lady A (singer), so I'll go ahead and do that. The second proposal will need further discussion. '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talkcontribs) 03:12, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Reverted. Pages should not be moved while an RM is in progess. 162 etc. (talk) 16:59, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
