[edit]I'm not sure the disambiguation link fix for directors is correct. Most of the directors that have attended Animazement as guests are Voice/ADR Directors (e.g. Scott Houle) and Animation directors (e.g. Koichi Tsunoda). 66.57.16.10 14:33, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

To Animazement staffer
[edit]To the Animazement staffer who has been updating this article. First off, your "updates" should first sent to a third-party site like AnimeCons.com. This can be done through simple press releases (for updates) or just submitting the corrections directly to the site, and I'm sure Patrick will appreciate it very much. Second, if a guest has already been linked once in the table, then don't add wikilinks for any of the other times that guest appears. This is a form of overlinking which should be avoided. --Farix (Talk) 17:27, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- Just got back from the first night of the convention. The 2008 guest list may be slightly incorrect. It's missing Mitsuo Fukuda for example and appears to have additional names not in the program (though they do appear on the web page). The AnimeCons.com information seems slightly suspect to me although they do fact checking, they are basically a tertiary source. Also note the page for 2006 was basically blank at the time I replaced the link to the official guest list page. I'm guessing that none of the AZ staff has been submitting information there. Primary and secondary sources such as fansview might be useful to fill in some of the blanks both here and there. Note it appears the official site doesn't have any guest information before the year 2006 so some of that may be hard to verify. BTW I do agree about the overlinking. Each guests name should only be linked once. PaleAqua (talk) 05:12, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Attendance numbers for 2011 / 2012.
[edit]Anyone have any better sources for those number. Or in touch with staff that could submit official numbers to a 2nd or third party report site? ( I believe they normally announce an approximate number of attendees during closing ceremonies, did they this year? ) I saw that User:199.19.251.25 changed the 2012 number to 7,600 but don't see sources for that. PaleAqua (talk) 20:03, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
- Post on the forums says they announced over 7,760 at closing. [1]. PaleAqua (talk) 02:19, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
Pre-con night / Thursdays
[edit]The convention officially begins on the Friday of the weekend but also has had a a pre-con night which includes panels. The pre-con tradition goes back to at least 1999, if not 1998. This probably should be mentioned somehow. PaleAqua (talk) 02:48, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Attendance numbers for 2013
[edit]They announced 8855 at the closing ceremonies for 2013 though I would still take that number as estimate, hopefully a 3rd party site will have a good number soon. They mentioned that the number last year was about seven thousand five hundred. So that 8000 est. for 2012 still seems a bit high. PaleAqua (talk) 21:42, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- Most of these problems would be solved if the convention would submit the proper numbers to Animecons.com for the last several years, what confuses me is they submit the guests lists but seem to ignore the attendance figures. The 8,000 number I suspect includes all warm-bodies, as an news report from 2012 also mentions 8,000. What's also problematic is two sources report different numbers for 2013, so I've included both for now. Esw01407 (talk) 23:21, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Most of the people I knew that were on staff have retired, and it's not information that I have myself. ( Yes I have a connection with the convention which is why I avoid direct editing, except for some exception cases, such as fixing over linking or the like. And even if I had real numbers it would be OR for me to use them directly. ) I might see if I can ask the current staff about it, but might take me a while to get in touch with the right people. To be honest I'd be surprised if the stuff at animecons was submitted by staff based on some conversations I've had with the former staff that I was friends with. I've noticed information that has been wrong at animecons a few times about guest which has me wonder if it is actually an attendee submitting it. Note that the 7,500 number was from an article written during the convention, so was probably an interm number. I do know that the counts they used to release during closing ceremonies only included regular attendee badges, but might count badges bought to replace lost/stolen badges. I assume that is still the case, but have no easy way to verify anymore. I think the numbers released by news sources are estimated warm-body as often the interviews with the directors occur prior to "official" numbers from registration which are only announced at closing. PaleAqua (talk) 01:39, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- Interesting points if the staff are the ones not submitting. Animecons I will agree at times isn't 100 percent accurate, but with the lack of a better source at this point it's the best possible. Two of the biggest problems I run into while editing convention articles are un-sourced or primary sourced edits with guest and attendance figures. While many are good faith IP edits, some are sadly done by con staff and/or quasi con staff for a variety of reasons. Some conventions also don't have updated AC information, the longest I know being two years, which further complicates matters requiring alternative sources to be found such as press releases (also far and few between depending on the con). Possible sources for 2013
[edit]Possible source 2013 from the local newspaper:
- Murawski, John (2013-05-26). "Animazement dazzles with color, from, ingenuity". News and Observer. Raleigh.
Again unless it's pure fact corrections or the like, I prefer to avoid making edits to this article myself. PaleAqua (talk) 11:07, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
And another source:
- Padula, Derek (2013-05-25). "Animazement Opens its Doors for 2013". The Epoch Times.
Lists some of the events the convention holds so might be a source for that, and mentions some of the guests. PaleAqua (talk) 11:18, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- Both were useable and have been included. Esw01407 (talk) 23:21, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
2014 Attendance
[edit]I didn't go this year, so can't say what was said at closing ceremonies, but their official Facebook page shows 11,287 attendees—assuming that use the same tally process as before that number excludes staff, guests, free-badges, and the like—for 2014 vs 8,855 for the prior year. While this is a primary source, and primary sources can be used for non-editoral facts, a third party source if possible would be much better. Again I know people that are or at least were on staff, so posted here instead of citing directly on page, as I prefer to keep my changes to minor tidying up ( such as removing redundant wiki-links ) and the like. PaleAqua (talk) 05:29, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
- The official source can be a reference and should be added on the page. Of course, a 3rd party source would be better, if only to reinforce the primary source. --WashuOtaku (talk) 21:49, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
- I am not particularly fond of using primary sources, but it would be better then what's not sourced right now. Still having the same issue of the convention not updating animecons.com with attendance figures and full guest lists (several years need it). Esw01407 (talk) 22:13, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
