Radio Times

[edit]

It was shown on The One Show this week (yesterday?) that she appeared on the cover of the Radio Times when she won a Blue Peter painting competition. A Google search will bring up the dates if someone wants to add to the article. jmb (talk)

Professor or Doctor?

[edit]

Her recent docu Ice Age Giant credits her as "Professor Alice Roberts". Does anyone know if this is because she is a professor of anatomy now (which she was working towards in 2009) or if this is merely a sort of courtesy title because she is Professor of Public Engagement at Birmingham? If it is the former, the article needs to be updated.--Feuerrabe (talk) 09:42, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I made a little search through every website I could think of, but found no reference to a further appointment. Actually, the series Ice Age Giants was first shown well over a year ago and so would have been made shortly after her appointment to the chair at Birmingham. Given that a chair (i.e. professorship) was created and Dr Roberts was appointed to it, it seems to me wholly appropriate to refer to her as "Prof. Roberts". Thank you for your quick answer! I am currently in the process of creating an article for Alice Roberts on de.wiki and wanted to clear this up. I could not find any indication that she had a new appointment either, but since I'm not all that familiar with academic practices in England, I thought one of you might know more. Thanks again! --Feuerrabe (talk) 14:37, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am glad to be of help. I hope I have not missed anything. Best wishes for the successful completion of your article. LynwoodF (talk) 16:29, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rename page appropriately

[edit]

I suggest Dr since that appears to be her twitter handle, but I did not research this at all. I recall Dr as the attribution used in tv shows... and this one is unlikely to change, but if Prof. is more correct, this should be used instead. Emphatically, the titled full name ought to be the default page URL, and the old one at Alice_Roberts should redirect to there. If this is a technical challenge for the wikipedia code droids, ie dragging the edit history of the page to a new address, then it is one they should be attacking as a matter of priority. This matters an awful lot to people who work an entire lifetime to earn recognition, in some cases. Please do not respond to my query in any way except by actually doing this. I cannot rename the page, as wikipedia have reduced the edit privileges of unregistered users, and i am not going to be editing wikipedia any other way. Professors don't get the title "Prof" as part of their article name e.g. Stephen Hawking, Brian Cox (physicist), etc., etc. See MOS:DOCTOR. Sorry for having to respond in a way you did not demand. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:41, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

agree with the above. name should have Dr before it, also add post nominals, at least FRSB (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Fellow_of_the_Royal_Society_of_Biology). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:312E:C400:102A:F3C9:EB1E:B624 (talk) 18:16, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the post-nominal to the first line of the article. Richard Nevell (talk) 19:22, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Have also added same to infobox. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:17, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy over her interpretation of the metaphysical worldviews

[edit]
  1. atheism is negatively defined by the non-god false precosmic personhood bearer
    correct
  2. only atheists are good humans, or everyone is but the nonsupernaturalists don't deserve a specific nonspiritualist name for their physicalist cohort - humanism is a perfect term, because either theists are bad humans, or all worldviews have good humans but physicalists don't deserve a specific cohort name
she's wrong; we should use the term physicalists; those who accept the scientific study of the pre-Big-Bang state as part of physics — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:2149:8240:8C00:3440:8D8C:C22D:5A34 (talk) 21:00, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Date of marriage

[edit]

The current source for 14 February 2009 is: @thealiceroberts (May 30, 2021). "twelve years ago I got married very quietly" (Tweet) – via Twitter.. But this fails verification I can find nothing else online. But a Google search for "Alice Roberts married" produces 2000. No idea why. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:15, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing that the "very quietly" bit means that it wasn't reported anywhere. The google search seems to refer to David Stevens (screenwriter) which doesn't seem to be correct at all. Given that this can't be verified, shouldn't it be deleted or is too harsh a reading of the policy? RicDod (talk) 19:37, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No, I agree it should be deleted. Or at least commented out. I imagined that Roberts' post in some way allowed an inference of the date, and had anticipated someone with a Twitter account who could somehow find the missing tweet. Glad it's not just me. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:53, 10 August 2021 (UTC) p.s, yes, that David Stevens was gay, lived in New Zealand and died in 2018.[reply]
Agree that the tweet doesn't give an exact date, although the year 2009 is implied. Suggest we say "they married in 2009". Wire723 (talk) 13:15, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify, when I open that Twitter link I don't see any date, or the words "twelve years ago I got married very quietly". Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:23, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The ref was poorly done – it linked to one of the replies and it was necessary to scroll up to see Alice's message. I mended it. Wire723 (talk) 16:33, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for fixing. Now I see. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:36, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately the editor who added the date is inactive, doesn't have a wiki-email and his Flickr doesn't appear recent either. I saw Alice being set up by Richard (Richard and Judy) on live Ch4, wanting her to know that some of the backroom staff were interested in pursuing her - she declined, stating she was not available. Alice was being interviewed together with another female archaelogist - initially the name escaped me after so long, but eventually remembered Katie. There's only a brief mention in th'article, but you can see where I googled it here.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 15:50, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, Katie Hirst, who has her own IMDb entry. Personally, I don't believe that Roberts is a witch. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:19, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed it. Apart from the leap of logic required to get from the tweet to a date, this fails WP:BLPPRIVACY as personal information that has not been widely published in reliable sources. – Joe (talk) 16:39, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh well. Couldn't have sent a card anyway. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:36, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Children

[edit]

In a radio programme from 2019 Alice Roberts said she was about to have another baby. So does she actually have three children? 78.148.110.195 (talk) 10:18, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
