Not really a rivalry
[edit]Alabama and Clemson have never really been considered "rivals" in any sense of the word as it's used in college football. Just because they have played a few years in a row in the playoffs doesn't really elevate this series to a rivalry status.
For two programs from different conferences, different states who rarely schedule each other to be considered a rivalry takes a lot and this doesn't meet it. Aside from the playoff games, the two teams have had only one actually scheduled meeting over the past 40 years.
It certainly could blossom into a rivalry but I don't think it's there yet or even particularly close.
- Agree. Although I think the bar for what constitutes a "rivalry" on wikipedia is fairly low.CH52584 (talk)
Yeah, like for example, the Warriors and Cavaliers in the NBA were considered one of the best rivalries in the NBA. But in reality the Warriors were always better than the Cavaliers except in 2016 won it. When Kevin Durant joined they destroyed them back to back years.
Another example is how on the NHL wiki will put non existant rivalries, such as the Arizona Coyotes vs Vegas Golden Knights, or the Detroit Red Wings vs Pittsburgh Penguins, only because the first two teams are in the desert. And the other two played each other in back to back cup finals.
Meanwhile the Bruins and Canucks actually DO hate each other but there is NO out of conference rivalries listed at all? *shrug*Dr. Pizza (talk) 08:36, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
