.

I was put in touch with Peter Cluskey via a mutual acquaintance. He was investigating the possibility of adding an article to wikipedia about his late wife, Adrienne Cullen. I was reimbursed by Peter Cluskey for some research expenses when working on the Adrienne Cullen page. He also provided me with the photos on the page for which he owns the copyright. He provided the necessary documentation for this. This is the only payment received. Any other editing I do to the page will be as a volunteer. Janep1814 (talk) 15:09, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Add photos to article

[edit]

I'd like to add some photographs to the article. The copyright holder, Peter Cullen, has emailed the necessary details to

Permissions - Wikimedia Commons <permissions-commons@wikimedia.org>

How do I go about adding the photos? Janep1814 (talk) 15:14, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Janep1814, I assume you mean how do you get them uploaded on Commons and not deleted. Again I would suggest Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red as most article talk pages are not seen by many people. There is also Wikipedia:Help desk for questions not related to WiR. TSventon (talk) 16:25, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I have looked at Commons and set up a category c:Category:Adrienne Cullen for the photos and linked it to the Wikidata item. If you click on the images, three of them have a note in the Summary section saying The Wikimedia Foundation has received an e-mail confirming that the copyright holder has approved publication under the terms mentioned on this page and three don't. You could ask at c:Commons:Help desk, explain what should have happened and ask about the other three. You could also respond to c:User talk:Janep1814#File:About to fly over Malta in an ancient Cessna.jpg. TSventon (talk) 21:20, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm getting the necessary permissions for the three photos that still need the correct copyright information. Can all the photos be then added to the Adrienne Cullen page? Janep1814 (talk) 14:00, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have added an "infobox" and added back the three photos with permission. It would be useful if Cluskey could tell you (roughly) when the photos were taken so you could update the commons descriptions. I don't know whether all the photos are needed, there is a link to commons in the external links section. TSventon (talk) 15:29, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @TSventon. Thanks for updating the page. I'll try and find the dates that the photos were taken and add those details to the commons descriptions. Janep1814 (talk) 07:49, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sourcing

[edit]

The sourcing in this article needs careful checking. For example, the book "Thursday's Child", no page number specified, was used as a source for "Adrienne Cullen was born in Tubbercurry, County Sligo". Looking at the book, page [6] has "Born in County Sligo", but does not mention Tubbercurry. There is no source for her exact date of birth, nor for her parents' names. I wonder how much has been provided by personal communication with Cullen's widower? The "paid research" ought really to have found the sourcing which Wikipedia requires. PamD 10:22, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @PamD - I'll search for these details. As a side note, I'm no longer receiving payment of research or editing on this page. Janep1814 (talk) 11:01, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Janep1814 Thanks. Just go through the article and make sure that everything in it is sourced, not to your own knowledge or conversations with Peter, but to reliable independent published sources. I can see that she's a thoroughly "Notable" person with a sad and important story, but content in Wikipedia needs to be properly sourced. PamD 11:10, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PamD - will do. I'm really pleased that the page is online and want it to be as good as possible. Janep1814 (talk) 13:46, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Add language and sources

[edit]

{{edit COI}}

I'd like to publish the page in Dutch as well. Can I do this or does the translation need to go through another editor without conflict of interest? I have the Dutch page ready and can provide it to a wikipedia editor if required.

I also want to add or change the following citations as requested on the published page:

- 2nd paragraph under Campaign for open disclosure by hospitals - page 300 in Deny, Dismiss, Dehumanise is a letter sent by Professor Prue Vines in which she critiques the lack of adequate procedures and compared the situation in the Netherlands to that of Australia.

- 1st sentence under The Adrienne Cullen Lectures - I'd like to delete the first part of the sentence - 'As part of her legal settlement with UMC Utrecht' - as the settlement is not in the public arena so I can't source it other than through hearsay.

- Last sentence 3rd paragraph under The Adrienne Cullen Lectures - Change this to 'In her interview with van der Ham some time after the Lecture, Adrienne Cullen explained why she had wanted him to be present at the lecture.' Include the link to the video clip that is in the original sentence.

- Last sentence under Personal life - Citation for the fact that Adrienne Cullen lived in Voorschoten can be found on page 301 of Deny, Dismiss, Dehumanise. The document reproduced on that page gives the full home address.

Thanks Janep1814 (talk) 10:36, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Janep1814 I've got things going on and can't concentrate on doing the page edits, but in answer to question about nl.wiki: you need to check the nl.wiki procedures for declarations of COI etc, and also check their instructions for adding a translation, with acknowledgment of the en.wiki article, because if what you're proposing to put there is a translation of the en.wiki at any stage beyond May 2024 it includes the work of other editors which needs to be acknowledged. PamD 11:11, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PamD - I'll check the instructions for translation. I'm also more than happy to do any edits to the Adrienne Cullen page myself but understood that another editor needs to do them because of my declared conflict of interest. Janep1814 (talk) 13:54, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please request edits here with the template {{edit COI}} in future thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 14:16, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Janep1814 Leave it for some other editor. I'm too stressed right now. PamD 20:28, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Second paragraph under Campaign for open disclosure by hospitals - page 300 in Deny, Dismiss, Dehumanise is a letter sent by Professor Prue Vines in which she critiques the lack of adequate procedures and compared the situation in the Netherlands to that of Australia.
Clarification needed.[note 1]

1st sentence under The Adrienne Cullen Lectures - I'd like to delete the first part of the sentence - 'As part of her legal settlement with UMC Utrecht' - as the settlement is not in the public arena so I can't source it other than through hearsay.
Clarification needed.[note 2]

Last sentence 3rd paragraph under The Adrienne Cullen Lectures - Change this to 'In her interview with van der Ham some time after the Lecture, Adrienne Cullen explained why she had wanted him to be present at the lecture.' Include the link to the video clip that is in the original sentence.
Clarification needed.[note 3]

Thanks @Spintendo,
Points 2. and 3. seem to have been dealt with. I to clarify points 1. and 4. below.
1.Citation is requested for this sentence in the 2nd paragraph under heading 'Campaign for open disclosure by hospitals'. The sentence in question reads, 'She revealed the inadequate systems and deep-rooted culture in hospitals that can lead them to act in ways that are self-protecting rather than in the best interests of their patients.'. The citation for this can be found on page 300 of Deny, Dismiss, Dehumanise is a letter sent by Professor Prue Vines in which she critiques the lack of adequate procedures and compared the situation in the Netherlands to that of Australia.
The following citation can be added to the end of that sentence - Cullen, Adrienne (2019). Deny, Dismiss, Dehumanise: What Happened When I Went to Hospital. Uigeverij van Brug. p.300. ISBN 9789065232236.
4. Citation is requested in the 2nd paragraph under the heading 'Personal life'. The sentence in question reads 'Cullen lived in the suburb of Voorschoten, near The Hague,[citation needed] until her death, at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, on 31 December 2018.'
The following citation can be added to the end of that sentence - Cullen, Adrienne (2019). Deny, Dismiss, Dehumanise: What Happened When I Went to Hospital. Uigeverij van Brug. p.301. ISBN 9789065232236.
I hope this clarifies.
