  • Support: This is the official name. Atletico Madrid use this sort of naming... whatever... officially this team is known as Atletico de Kolkata and Atletico de Kolkata is how it should be named. Every major source says Atletico de Kolkata so by that, that is what the name should be. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 18:21, 15 July 2014 (UTC)

  • "In early 2014, it was announced that the All India Football Federation" - month is necessary, because a year is too long to keep "Early 2014".
  • being purchased for 18 crore. - the US dollar one needed
  • "had won the bidding" - "the bid"
checkYDone.Ikhtiar H (talk) 12:31, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
  • "The club then signed" - then? It is a new section
  • " Atlético de Kolkata selected seven players" - I think the sentence is wrong because the club had to sign seven players- no more no less
  • "relations between the Bengali people of India and Bangladesh." - between East Bengal (Bangladesh) and West Bengal " looks better and it is what the link says
  • the link does not says that Hume scored the team's first hat-trick
  • " Bidhannagar City part of Kolkata" - why city capital? Also it should be "Bidhannagar, on the outskirts of Kolkata"
  • Most of the players are now playing for other clubs - so either it should be altered or the section heading should be changed to 2015 squad.
    • I will make it say it is the 2015 squad. The ISL and ATK websites have not been updated since then. If you know from Indian news and media which players have left, you are allowed to update (small changes can be made by reviewers). However, if most of the domestic players have returned to the I-League and the squad is now decimated, I think it would look more presentable to keep it as the 2015 squad '''tAD''' (talk) 20:47, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

Club Name

This has been moved back and forth a couple of times. Clearly this needs at least a quick RM discussion with a focus not just on the timing of any official name change, but also WP:COMMONNAME. To prevent any further warring, I have move protected the page for a week to allow this discussion to take place. Fenix down (talk) 12:49, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

@Fenix down,@Coderzombie,@ArsenalFan700 Atletico de Madrid has confirmed parting of ways with Atlético de Kolkata.[1] 25% of their share was taken over by Sanjeev Goenka. And Sanjeev Goenka told reporters that their club name would be no longer Atletico de kolkata but simply ATK[2].Part of the their Break up with ATM They've changed their logo, their Facebook[1],Twitter[2] Instagram [instagram.com/atkworld/] handle names and website[3].Akhiljaxxn (talk) 13:08, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

Current roster

The roster at the team's web site does not appear to match either the recent edits or the roster as it existed prior to the recent changes. Is there any reason why the roster as listed there should not be used here? Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 00:17, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

Source for players and staff

Why doesn't the article provide a source for these sections? It's causing a lot of problem with people changing the rooster and staff without anywhere to quickly verify these facts. I would usually assume this is just incompetence and look for one, but there seem to be some real disputes here and since it has passed a GA review several editors who have agreed this is suitable. --Trialpears (talk) 19:02, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

ATK (football club)ATK FC – rather writing football club, FC is better. in every club's article only FC is written.  :) S A H 14:42, 25 January 2020 (UTC)

Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. GiantSnowman 13:17, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

It is not appropriate to rename the article since the official club site termed it as ATK whereas the official site of ISL terms it as ATK FC the actual name of the club is ATK not ATK FC. To my mind as the discussions prolong it may favour your request but it posess critically negligible chances.

Anyways, Good luck, SHISHIR DUA (talk) 07:33, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

Name

@ArsenalFan700: sources of the name- 1 (owner clearly mentioned here), 2 (another owner) and 3 (another reliable source). ❯❯❯ S A H A 18:49, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

First two sources are not independent and the third is not a reliable source. Other outlets, even the ISL website, have said that the new brand identity will be revealed from 1 June. At this point, it looks like ATK-Mohun Bagan is a working name, not the actual name of the team yet. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 19:02, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
There is no need of OR right now. In June they gonna reveal eventually, matter of few days. So no need of hurry at all. More than that before changing the name we need to discuss about how we should keep the history, which will be more important. Drat8sub (talk) 20:12, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
Drat8sub, new club, new history. ❯❯❯ S A H A 08:09, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
ArnabSaha New club?? No, RP-SGGroup brought 80% shares of MB, just like any company do, technically ATK merged to MB, it does not change club's history. RP-SGG does not own MB and never will, owners will always be the members, I think same in case of EB. But the situation is different because they brought the share and want to merge the club. Now one club have more than 100 years of history and another is just in traces. However, MB's members and Goenka himslef emphasized on MB's history, so we have to see what they have to say in the coming media conference. Companies and entities will always buys share of clubs, just like City Group buys share of Mumbai City..it does not change a clubs history, the MB's history will continue and here in ATK's history it will be concluded so far things say. As ArsenalFan700 said, let's wait. Drat8sub (talk) 11:39, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
Drat8sub, man city - mumbai city case is different from mb - atk case. the press release by mohunbagan (check their website) clearly mentions 2 entities will merge/amalgamate and form a new club having both brand names. an it is a new club, established in 2020. this isn't just a company buying shares and investing. ❯❯❯ S A H A 12:30, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
ArnabSaha No, they cannot make a new club totally, from the fact that, Mohun Bagan's owner is the members and they cannot form new club. Its a corporate ownership for Goenka. They can merge ATK to Mohun Bagan and rename the team like ATK-Mohun Bagan, but MB's history will continue. Identity crisis is actually for ATK not for MB. And I don't think they will take any idiotic step like forming new club totally and destroy Kolkata football culture. And as Debashis Dutta himslef told that name may change but not the club's image. He even said, the element of the logo will be there, the boat and the color, and Goenka emphasized on clubs history, its importance and heritage, and he said no one can erase such history. So, I hope they are on the side of Kolkata's football culture, and Goenka very well knows what it means to be Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal, that they call "aabek", and what fans mean to football. So if they do blunder of forming totally new club, then it will be the start of new ending of Bengal football for sure. Drat8sub (talk) 14:58, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
Drat8sub, end of Kolkata derby or Bengal football isn't what as a Wikipedia editor should be concerned. but, you can't decide anything based on just statements. in the same way, then Goenka's statement on the new club's name should be valid. ATK-MB is just another example like PSG, where Goenka bought MB and merging it with his own club atk. and it is a new club. check any source, website, article, reports. even mohunbagan's official website mention's the same. btw, its "aabeg" and goenka is a big industrialist. and industrialists hardly care for emotions. ❯❯❯ S A H A 15:30, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
You guys are taking this too seriously. Look, this is simple. Goenka said something but all other sources have said that the new brand and name will be revealed on 1 June. Just wait until then. Right now, in encyclopedia terms, it should be "Will merge with Mohun Bagan" and then after 1 June can be changed to whatever the new entity is. We also don't know whether it will be Mohun Bagan as a continuation or a brand new club. Again, lets see. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 22:28, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Nah! not serious, just putting together my views. They themselves will tell on 1st June whom they are putting under guillotine. Indian football websites, are full of junks, I don't read them much, most of them full of bizzare opinions rather than facts. Drat8sub (talk) 22:38, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

And ArnabSaha there is nothing wrong about discussing football related things here, chill !! talk apges are for that purpose, you can discuss all related things, until and unless someone abusing and disrupting. If I am not wrong we joined wikipedia for the love of Indian football, atleast I am, so if we don't think and concerned about genuine things who else will do here. Anyway hope something good comes on June1. Drat8sub (talk) 22:44, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Drat8sub, yes, something good will definitely happen. rip mohunbagan ❯❯❯ S A H A 07:05, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
If it is RIP for MB, then I think it will be same for EB, EB and MB glued together, rivalry keeps them alive. One's death means another's slow death, EB is already struggling for last 10-15 years, they did not win any national championships and hardly other major tournaments. And surely the football culture will shift to south totally, if such happens. Goa's league in present time is performing in best and most professional way possible than anyother state leagues. It's always healthy for Indian football if MB and EB play and perform together. So any wrong step will not only a loss for Kolkata football but for Indian football too. Drat8sub (talk) 16:01, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Drat8sub, goenka is an industrialist, and they dont care about emotions. after spending almost 300+ crores (50x6) on ATK, obviously he wont let it die. ❯❯❯ S A H A 17:46, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Ofcorse he does, what else he needed through this merger !.... the "emotions" I mean the fans. His 300+ cr could not bring the emotions what MB have. So in real sense he did not buy 80% of MB's share, but 80% of the fans, that's what he needed and if he needed to let ATK die, he will make it, at the end of the day he needs profit and profit in football comes when fans come and join and watch. So surely he cares for emotions, something directly proportional to profit. Drat8sub (talk) 21:53, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Drat8sub, as I said, the name will be atkmb. atk won't die. see. the company named atk mohunbagan shows reserved in ministry of corporate affairs website. ❯❯❯ S A H A 20:08, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
Cool. We need to wait until the official announcement though before doing anything. Till then, Mohun Bagan is Mohun Bagan and ATK is ATK. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 22:31, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Name change to new merge team request

The name of this team now got changed and it is now ATK Mohun Bagan FC.A new entity playing in ISL.This new entity also have separate page in facebook, insta and twitter. Hence new name is required to update.New name ATK Mohun Bagan FC is the football activity of original Mohun Bagan hence require separate page with updated name Sonabhaumik87 (talk) 21:09, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Move the page to ATK Mohun Bagan

As it is clearly seen all the official websites & social media pages have changed from ATK to ATK Mohun Bagan, so I guess it's better to move this page to ATK Mohun Bagan too. And ofcourse the logo will be changed & there would be two foundation dates, 1) Founded as Atletico de Kolkata, 2) Founded as ATK (2014) Mohun Bagan (2020) Coderdaddy1369 (talk) 07:25, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Please provide a source that explains that ATK Mohun Bagan FC is actually a rebranded ATK. As far as the club itself is concerned, they're a team formed as part of a merger between the football department of Mohun Bagan and ATK. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 07:40, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

For example go here, isl 2019-20 Atk has become AtkMohun Bagan https://www.indiansuperleague.com/standings You can also go to other I-League and Aiff websites, it's changed there too! Moreover all the social media handles of ATK have also changed the name to the later. Coderdaddy1369 (talk) 08:06, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Gonna tell one more thing! If it is a new identity, it would have to pick up the bids and follow the procedures, but no i didn't have to! Moreover the owners are still more or less the same. It's just the name that has changed. Coderdaddy1369 (talk) 08:10, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Just because the social media handles continued the same doesn't mean they are the exact same club. Probably was less hassle keeping the old media than shutting down and using something new. We need something concrete from the club to confirm if what you say is true. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 19:23, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
I also agree with this, but its best to create a new one. ❯❯❯   S A H A 10:55, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
I'm okay with the renaming of ATK and a history merge of ATK Mohun Bagan since we have multiple independent reliable sources like The Hindu, outlook, ESPN and Firstpost, which calls ATK Mohun Bagan as the defending Indian Super League champions.–– Akhiljaxxn (talk) 06:09, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
The club themselves have also said that ATK is a former ISL team and that this is a new club formed as a merger. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 23:46, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Now ATK Mohun Bagan is being referred to as rhe defending champions by ISL official website, moreover using a jersey with 'Champions Hero ISL' embroidered on it! Also have 3stars. MindSlayer13 (talk) 23:17, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Can any one then create a separate page for ATK Mohunbagan FC which is a new entity also have separate insta, twitter and facebook page.People will not get actual info if a separate page only for ATK Mohunbagan is not there Sonabhaumik87 (talk) 21:26, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

We need to move this article to ATK Mohun Bagan, that's it! MindSlayer13 (talk) 09:21, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

This is a old club and it should remain as it is.New page should have new entity.in case both team gets separated then this page will remain as the original one Sonabhaumik87 (talk) 00:22, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

I agree we should move this article to ATK Mohun Bagan. Ludost Mlačani (talk) 06:22, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
Absolutely not. ATK is not ATK MB and ATK is defunct club, does not exist anymore. Drat8sub (talk) 09:39, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
At this point I'd suggest starting a move discussion to garner opinions from uninvolved editors. Primefac (talk) 10:43, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
As per multiple RS (including primary), ATKMB is the defending champion of ISL.  Saha ❯❯❯ Stay safe  15:42, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

Atk club didn't dissolve

If atk(football club) is shown as dissolved why mohunbagan is not showed as dissolved? None of the clubs are dissolved. They merged with each other Lampard9753 (talk) 07:42, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Mohun Bagan A.C. still exists because it wasn't just a football club, it had other areas. However its football club information has now been moved to new area to show its merger with ATK ATK Mohun Bagan FC. NZFC(talk)(cont) 20:09, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

So even Atk as such didn't dissolve. U shud remove the dissolve word nd mention that it has been merged with mohunbagan as 80% stake of atkmohunbagan is taken by atk,so I think dissolve isn't a correct word for atk Lampard9753 (talk) 04:54, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

ATK (football club)Atlético de Kolkata – This team was in existence for 6 seasons, the first three as "Atlético de Kolkata", and the final three as "ATK". I don't see any evidence that one name is more notable than the other; however, the original name provides a WP:NATURAL disambiguation, which is preferable. 162 etc. (talk) 20:03, 15 April 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. Steel1943 (talk) 19:47, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Are you basing this on a naming convention? I don't see anything on WP:FOOTY or WP:NCST that addresses the topic of preferred name in the case of defunct teams. 162 etc. (talk) 05:46, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose I think it's typical tha when a sports team ceases trading we would use their most recent name as long as that's what they were commonly known as. SportingFlyer T·C 15:10, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
  • Support per nom. I see no reason, either in policy or in common sense, why we should retain the most recent name of a defunct club over one of its other former names, and the nom makes a good case as to why the spelled out name is preferable.  — Amakuru (talk) 10:54, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose GiantSnowman and SportingFlyer are correct in setting out how these situations are usually dealt with (i.e. using the more recent name of the club before it folded). Number 57 18:43, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose WP:TITLEDAB states that the current parenthetical disambiguation may be used if "none of the other solutions lead to an optimal article title". Reverting to "Atlético de Kolkata" for the sake of natural disambiguation is not optimal because doing this violates WP:NAMECHANGES; the sources demonstrably switched to exclusively using "ATK" after the name change. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi!
