LANTIRN or LITENING ?
[edit]The picture is a LANTIRN pod, not LITENING pod. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.42.128.28 (talk) 19:09, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
- Interesting comment - I wondered where the windows were! I think the appearance varies when it is pointed in different directions: the front section (25% of length) can 'roll', and the front sphere can pitch or yaw. The photo probably shows it with the windows stowed to protect them for inactive flight (think 'eyeball rolled up'). Google Images [litening site:mil] finds this very image as LITENING on a .mil site The Integrator -- News From Across ESC.
- LANTIRN pods look different.
- Plus Metadata (click 'Show extended details') identifies it as LITENING - added by the Marines photographer !

It's definitely a LITENING pod. In the stowed position the optics on the ball face rearwards, necessary to protect them from debris thrown up by the nose wheel when mounted on the centreline. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.210.166.179 (talk) 15:40, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Why isn't the LITENING III mentioned at all ?
[edit]It is the version after LITENING AT and prior to the 4G system. Tt100 (talk) 12:40, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
Russian LITENING
[edit]russian MIG-21LanceR and Su-30 aircraft are equipped with LITENING — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.135.8.177 (talk) 06:55, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- the MIG-21LanceR is not Russian , it is a modernised MIG-21 by the Romanian airforce, it is modified to be compatible with western equipment and weapons.
- Same thing with the Su-30 , India modified their Su-30 and it is not the same as the Russian Su-30 2A02:2F0C:5A07:7200:94F5:E541:94C9:A298 (talk) 16:37, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

Litening → AN/AAQ-28 Litening – The article's lede immediately identifies that the only system discussed is the AN/AAQ-28. It is common practice when naming articles for devices which use the American military JETDS naming convention for the article to be like either AN/AAQ-28 or including the system name like AN/AAQ-28 Litening. For many examples, see Category:Military electronics of the United States. This would make the page far easier to locate since most users will search for either AN/AAQ-28 or AN/AAQ-28 Litening. It is not typical across Wikipedia to place the Manufacturer into the article name, such as Rafael AN/AAQ-28 Litening. I am not able to find any examples like that. But I am open to ideas. Please share your thoughts. — TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 16:08, 9 August 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Waqar💬 17:24, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
