Notability
[edit]ALPHA is notable for the following reasons:
- It is Toronto's oldest public alternative school
- It is the only school based on the Ontario government's landmark Hall-Dennis Report
- It is extremely rare to have a public school that has no grades, tests or homework
- It is extremely rare to have a public school in which day-to-day running of the school, including making and enforcing behaviour rules, is done by students and staff democratically
- It gained international prominence in May, 2013 with a London Daily Mail article, as well as a major spread in the Toronto Star and a Huffington Post article (both linked to from ALPHA Alternative School) Throughme (talk) 01:39, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
- It was prominent at a conference on alternative education sponsored by York University (as described in ALPHA Alternative School)
- It was the focus of a Masters thesis and journal article (now linked to from ALPHA Alternative School) Throughme (talk) 02:32, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
- Notability is determined through the guidelines at WP:N, namely the general notability guideline: significant coverage in multiple reliable, independent sources. (?) czar ⨹ 22:29, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
