Palmer Raid

[edit]

This section isn't in an encyclopedic tone. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 05:09, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This page is so POV

[edit]

How about the author of this page just come out and say your against palmer. His methods obviously worked. And nothging happend to him. There was really no anger directed at him because he went after radicals. He continued on in politics even after the raids. (68.195.102.206 (talk) 21:38, 9 October 2009 (UTC))JS[reply]

Agree this has POV problems

[edit]

I plan to tackle the POV issues, but I'll proceed slowly. I just did a basic re-write so it at least reads more smoothly (I hope). There was material buried in the notes that I moved into the body. And I trimmed a bit -- the Palmer Raids have their own entry and there was far more than necessary about anarchists. I feel I have a clean copy to work with. I'll start by nibbling around the edges, e.g., the election of 1920 at the end of his career, and work in toward the meat of his years as Attorney General. The tricky bit will be the balance between this and the equally problematic entry for the Palmer Raids.

I like working on issues where NPOV is hard to maintain, but usually I stick to more obscure people or issues. I'm not looking for battles, so I hope I'm not going to be sorry I got involved. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 03:36, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Caption

[edit]

The caption for the photo calls Palmer "Progessive and militant" how is it progressive to deport hundreds of immigrants illegally. I think there is a better word.

Those words are in quotes. I'll try to add a citation. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 23:49, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The words are in the body of the entry and properly attributed. I removed them from the caption where they were inappropriate. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 23:58, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

confusing sentance

[edit]

"Time magazine later credited him with the platform's opposition to forgiving the debts of America's allies in World War I and its promise to reduce government expenditures by 25%, though at the time Palmer also said that "extraordinary appropriations for the existing emergency" to relieve unemployment would counterbalance those savings"

this sentance is too confusing and needs to be rewritten. i would do it but i don't understand it — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.122.168.71 (talk) 01:01, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Alexander Mitchell PalmerA. Mitchell Palmer – This would make the article renamed to his common name, as the article intro states. Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 23:14, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Social Darwinist is a Progressive?

[edit]

Since when is a Social Darwinist a political progressive? Palmer advocated lower tariffs to the benefit of big international business and is quoted making a clearly Social Darwinist comment about the government not supporting the survival of the unfit. How is this progressive? Palmer was a reactionary and a man readily eager to violate Constitutional and civil rights. 2606:6000:C5C2:CA00:2D6E:9B66:91E5:699B (talk) 08:22, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Galleani's direct involvement in the Galleanist bombings

[edit]

The introductory matter says: "An anarchist named Luigi Galleani conducted a series of bombings and attempted to assassinate Palmer and other prominent individuals." Did Galleani orchestrate the bombing campaign himself, or did his followers conduct it without his direct input? Other articles on Wikipedia suggest the latter, but it would be self-referential to change the wording to "Followers of an anarchist," etc. What's actually known in this case, and what wording fits it best?
