NOAA have it on the coast ca. 30 km north of Lattakia and CFTI5MED have it at Lattakia. As the worst of the effects seem to have been in the coastal towns of Syria, I'm personally happy enough with using "coast" in the title. Sbeinati et al. pp 366–367 just say probably between Lattakia and Antioch (assuming that there were two separate earthquakes). Mikenorton (talk) 13:14, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Now that Dawnseeker2000 has added Ambraseys and I've added Sbeinati et al we have three separate sources from which to construct an article. They all rely on the interpretation of multiple historical sources. These are generally the same ones, even if the names of authors vary e.g. Al-Sayuti (Sbeinati), As-Soyuti (Antonopoulos) Al-Suyuti (Ambraseys) - Ambraseys also mentions that that text of the P (Paris) edition of Al-Suyuti's "Kashf al-salsala ‘an wasf al-zalzala. Abd al-Latif Sa’adani" is very confused. The three sources were written in the order Antonopoulos (2002) - Sbeinati et al. (2005) and Ambraseys (2009) and it should also be noted that Antonopoulos thanks Ambraseys for his assistance saying, "Without his invaluable help this work could not have been carried out". In attempting to rewrite and possibly expand this article, I think it best to rely on Ambraseys with information from Sbeinati et al. and finally Antonopoulos.
