Madgett campaign additions

I'm not sure what the relevance of the fact that an unnamed topical-content site has run an un-linked article about a candidate, or the fact that they've … sought out media opportunities. What fact is being recorded here? — jsled (talk) 22:29, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

I agree with you jsled, - I was going to come here and mention the same thing. It's unclear to me that a) it's a serious campaign for the position and b) the edits were made independently of the candidate. However, I'm not sure what to do next and wouldn't want to remove any information for the moment - though I have added templates. Beesleysam (talk) 15:15, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

It seems the candidate is serious, however can we discuss the constant vandalization? It seems there's one user (not logged in) who keeps adding to the campaign and another (not logged in) who keeps vandalizing his section. Considering this is an encyclopedia it'd be wrong to use sites like Reddit as reference for this however it seems the candidate is using these sorts of sites to further his agenda / campaign. Is there any way we can 1. Stop this vandalization and / or 2. Grab some legitimate references? - User:TheeElector (talk) 18:20, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Addition of Madgett as Candidate

There's been a lot of editing back and forth in regards to the addition or not of Madgett as a candidate. If anything, most of the removals of Madgett are quite bold. There's also been an argument that a 'kid' running for Governor isn't something that's plausible, and if anything, a joke. However, looking back to the 2018 Democratic primaries for the office, a high school freshman named Ethan Sonneborn was a candidate and ended up receiving 7.66% of the vote. There is no strict age limit on the age a candidate must be to run for the governorship in Vermont. I don't disagree that many of the edits made do feel like the campaign itself is trying to use this page as an advertisement platform, which is strictly not allowed. Despite this, I don't see a reason to remove Madgett. In fact, if their campaign is able to get the signatures needed to achieve ballot access and appear in polls, then we can consider him being added to the infobox. I've reverted the page back to a period of which it was neutral unless further discussion under this section warrants otherwise. Fulserish (talk) 02:18, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

@Vitamin vic: with this edit from three days ago, you made an unsourced addition named Alex Colley to the write-ins section. You summarized his occupations as "High School Student and retail worker From Ohio". This Google search doesn't yield anything relevant as a source for your edit. Your current user page is about the fictional life 0f "Kenneth Colley" — nickname "Alex" — who is active in Ohio politics.

So I've reverted the above-mentioned edit because it's likely adding either yourself or a fictional character, or perhaps someone who is a legit write-in who I can't find a source for. My bad if I missed the article, feel free to put the candidate back only if you have a reliable source to cite, we can avoid an edit war on this article like the one that happened in January to promote Jackson T. The inclusion of write-in candidates and minors and candidates

So, there's been a back and forth "edit war" over the inclusion of several write-in candidates (all minors) and listed candidates for election. The argument mostly lies in if the candidates are even considered "real" or not, or what sources count. In 2018, middle-school student Ethan Sonneborn won over 7 percent of the Democratic primary vote, so minors have been considered "real" candidates in the past. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RaynardMason123 (talk • contribs) 04:05, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

There is only one entry in that list with an independent source; I have removed the others. Content about living people requires strong sources, not self-published websites and tweets. Do not add any entries without reliable, independent sources. Schazjmd (talk) 14:02, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Alex Colley is running as a write-in candidate.

I am the candidate, the “character” on my about me page was something just for a bit of fun. I am running and have a website and the socials that follow it. Soon I will be adding a promo video on the website that can be seen now on my Instagram @colley4gov. I hope the fellow editors on this page and myself can come to some sort of consensus.
