Should NDA be added into the list of major candidates

@Tejasvi 3094 @Dhruv edits, going by the polls and % votes, it is clear that NDA is not in the top 2-3 parties/alliances in Punjab. C voter poll shows BJP with only 2.5% vote share, which is not enough to call it a major party in Punjab. Consequently I believe NDA candidates need not be mentioned in the list of Major candidates. ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ had removed it arguing that their situation is similar to SMM. After some thoughts I agree that even NDA In Punjab is not a major alliance. If you prefer NDA to be included in the candidate list, please provide your reasons. The NDA column is empty, this is another reason to drop them. Articles in mainspace should avoid empty tables and columns. To be clear, NDA will continue to be listed in the section of Alliances, this discussion is about the Candidate list. Venkat TL (talk) 07:54, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Brother mostly polls were before Declaration of candidates of NDA And SSM I am the local person We know what the reality is So we should add both NDA and SSM Candidates in the list I am the local person I know the ground Reality so believe me both allaince SSM and NDA would play a major role in upcoming Assembly polls although they so we should include both of them Tejasvi 3094 (talk) 08:09, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
@Tejasvi 3094, please WP:INDENT your comments. Please provide evidence for Major role. Without evidence your comments cannot be believed. --Venkat TL (talk) 08:17, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
@Tejasvi 3094, almost every opinion poll has been conducted before candidates of any party were announced, so that shouldn't matter. SSM announced to contest elections in December and in the 3 opinion polls published after their announcement, there is still no mention of SSM. Dhruv edits (talk) 08:47, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
@Tejasvi 3094, while we are having discussion, please do not make the changes without generating consensus first. Secondly it is completely inappropriate to add empty columns, when even the list is not released. Please undo your last change and remove the empty columns about NDA till we reach consensus. Venkat TL (talk) 13:10, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
In Candidate section both NDA and SSM candidates list must be added. :I agree with Tejasvi 3094. Preet Manak Singh (talk) 08:17, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
And why? Venkat TL (talk) 08:18, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
Considering that NDA in Punjab currently has 7 MLAs including a former 2-time CM, I think their candidates should be added. Candidates of how many parties are added is a case specific issue, and I think in this case, 4 parties/alliances can be added.
For SSM, notability is an issue, neither the party is major nor do they have any high profile candidates. More importantly, absolutely no mention in any opinion poll, so they shouldn't be added. Dhruv edits (talk) 08:33, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
@Dhruv edits, BJP only won 3 seats in 2017, in the alliance with SAD. Now SAD is no longer in alliance with BJP. So if you are going to compare with last election result, you also need to consider that the alliance is over. In any case we should go by the opinion poll % to decide on major parties. Since 3 parties cover 93% vote share it is clear that we have 3 major alliances in Punjab. Venkat TL (talk) 08:56, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
Regarding empty column, as per TOI, first list will be out today. Dhruv edits (talk) 08:53, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
@Dhruv edits. In 2017_Punjab_Legislative_Assembly_election#Results The results were about mainly 3 alliances, UPA, AAP, NDA. In 2022 elections, SAD has taken the place of NDA. Leaving NDA on 4th position. I think both of us agree upto this part. The only disagreement here is that you believe 4th party should be added in candidate list, while I believe it should not be added as their vote% (both in last election and opinion polls) is less than 5%. Party with less than 5% in vote share and opinion polls, cannot be called a major party. 2 time CM is not relevant if his MLAs are not with him. One cannot be CM without MLA support, which is the case here. Venkat TL (talk) 09:44, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

In Candidate section both NDA and SSM candidates list must be added. :I agree with Tejasvi 3094 Dev Adhi (talk) 12:36, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Dev Adhi why, Please give your reason with evidence? Please do not make irrelevant comment on this page. Please keep your comments only on the topic. Venkat TL (talk) 12:50, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
Majority Of The People Agreed To Add NDA Candidates Dev Adhi (talk) 13:05, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
@Dev Adhi. That is not how WP:CONSENSUS is achieved. Venkat TL (talk) 13:07, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

I and Dev adhi agreeed that NDA Should be added there as they are the major force in Punjab Total 46 Candidates are also been announced by the NDA too They deserve a place in the list tou Don't have a valid reason to remove them so please don't make any changes Tejasvi 3094 (talk) 13:15, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

@Tejasvi 3094 That you and @Dev Adhi agree on something does not mean WP:CONSENSUS. It just mean you two agree with each other. The Question being discussed here is why should every NDA candidate be listed in this article, when NDA is not even getting 5% of vote share in Opinion polls? There are many parties contesting and their candidates are not listed. Only Major party candidates are listed. Venkat TL (talk) 13:23, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
Thier seats are less but they are getting more than 5 percent of vote share in every opinion poll Tejasvi 3094 (talk) 13:31, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
@Tejasvi 3094. Please follow WP:INDENT. CVoter only gave them a minuscule 2.5% vote share. A party getting only 2.5% vote share is not a major party. Consequently their candidates may not be added into this list. If you want to name them, please do so in the individual constituency article. Please find the list on Category:Assembly constituencies of Punjab, India. Venkat TL (talk) 13:41, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
Republic P Mark Gave them 5.7 percent vote Zee News gave them 7 percent votes how is it less them 5 % ? Tejasvi 3094 (talk) 13:48, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
@Tejasvi 3094, WP:REPUBLICTV and WP:TOI are not reliable. Zee news is Run by BJP MP. Even if we accept these polls 7% is still not enough to be called a Major party. For now, NDA information should be added only in the alliance section. Not in the major candidate section. Venkat TL (talk) 13:51, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
Which BJP MP Runs Zee Tv please don't spread fake news 😂😂 and please tell me how 7 percent is not an Criteria to add ut in list and if a party with 7 % vote should not be added then remove AAP And Congress Columns from UP Assembly Election 2022 Page Tejasvi 3094 (talk) 13:54, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

@Tejasvi 3094, You can read about Zee and BJP here. [1] A party getting 2.5% vote share or 7% vote share cannot be called a major party. As simple as that. We are discussing about Punjab election page. Read the title of this page. Dont do off topic discussion. Venkat TL (talk) 13:59, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Why a party getting 7% vote share be termed as a major party What's wrong in that and let me tell you exit poll would definitely show that they would get more than 10 % vote share Tejasvi 3094 (talk) 03:38, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

@Venkat TL We cannot completely rely on vote share from opinion polls only. An alliance containing a national party that has seats in legislative assembly, that also has 3 MPs from that state, should constitute a major party/alliance for the elections.

Also, it is difficult to decide what the minimum % of vote share in opinion polls should be to add candidates in election pages, since every case is different, and any such number would be subjective. In some cases, candidates of 3 parties are enough, in some other cases we might need 4 or 5.

Also all opinion polls only list major parties of the state (which is usually 3 or 4 parties/alliances), whereas small and non-influential parties are clubbed under 'Others' in opinion polls. So we can list candidates of those parties/alliances that have specific mention in most opinion polls. This would remove ambiguity and confusion. Dhruv edits (talk) 07:26, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

@Dhruv edits You can choose any metric. My point is that whatever metric you choose to decide the major candidates, NDA will alwasy be considered not major in Punjab due to 2.5% vote share. Only 2-3 major candidates should be added because the screen width is limited and the page becomes cluttered. Regarding Ex CM Amarinder Singh, and NDA Leader in Punjab, their constituency can be mentioned in prose in the beginning of the section on Major candidates. Venkat TL (talk) 12:36, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
I reiterate that NDA should be seen as a major alliance in Punjab and should remain basis the points I raised above, and a speculated vote share (which is wrong quite a lot) shouldn't be the only criteria to decide against that.
Also, 4 party columns are currently within the width of the article. To reduce clutter, I have default collapsed the candidate table. The table will appear collapsed on the page and only when a user wants to see the table, they can un-hide it. Dhruv edits (talk) 13:55, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
@Dhruv edits ok. I have no objections if you collapse the table. The clutter is caused by too many columns. If we include only 3 alliances, then there will be sufficient width available for each cell. As a result the names could appear in 1 line instead of 2-3 lines. Individual names spread over multiple rows makes it harder to read. Candidate's name in one line is much more comfortable to read. Ok if you don't want to consider Opinion poll to decide, that is fine. What else are you suggesting we use to judge if an alliance is major? If we use last election result, BJP had 3 seats (2.5%) and vote share 5.39%, (This was because of SAD coaltion, now SAD is separate, so BJP seat and vote share will dip further) Venkat TL (talk) 14:43, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

On basis of your personal assumptions you can't remove any Alliance It's saying that results are fixed On your basis BSP has no seats in nor he has strong face but included right Personal matter has no thing here Wikipedia is not political center Het666 (talk) 08:06, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

On the basis of Opinion polls and vote results in last election. Neither of these are personal opinions. Not sure what you are talking about. Venkat TL (talk) 08:12, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

@Het666 Please read WP:REPUBLICTV. I have not written it. There is no consensus yet to add NDA. There is no reason for me to repeat what I have said above. WP:CONSENSUS is not a majority vote. Venkat TL (talk) 17:20, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Clearly only one person is against adding the members of Nda and ssm, and for a fuck all reason that bjp had only 3 seats, and opinion polls are giving 2.5% vote share, capt who is ex cm of punjab is also now in nda + bjp is now contesting over 65 seats more than ever, bjp is nation party regardless of major or not it stand a chance to be shown who is contesting from nda alliance, tmc in goa is showcased, upa in Uttar Pradesh but only nda is punjab is questionable? Clearly personal grudges with illogical proofs are used against one party, as a voter of punjab and being clear about ground reality, all candidates must be listed regardless of major or not including ssm (who have been protesting for farm laws over a year), its a request to add all candidates of both ssm and nda alliance so that people should now who is contesting from which constuencies, mr venkat stop your personal hatred towards one party, you are just an admin not the boss of wiki oedia, when many users are requesting something, it should be added and its is just a piece of information not any wrong information that is predicted. AK0183 (talk) 09:45, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

@ Mr. AK0183 (1) I am not an admin. (2) Wikipedia does not list ALL candidates. See WP:NOTDIRECTORY Even the third alliance will be removed from this page, the day election results are out. Only winner and Runner up candidates get mention. (3) You are recycling what others have already said and discussed above. Please read the discussion before responding. Venkat TL (talk) 14:00, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

If NDA won the election then what will you do you have to add all candidates Kaustubhkul (talk) 19:16, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

@Kaustubhkul If they would have won. We would have added their names. The NDA candidate who won, his name will be added. Venkat TL (talk) 12:59, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Then remove AAP also from up candidate list. You are totally biased. Abhisingla1987 (talk) 13:07, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Why NDA is removed from candidate list ?

NDA section used to be there, some anti-national elements removed the NDA section, and that is not recovered back. This is total biasing. I can add it back if you can give me permission. Abhisingla1987 (talk) 15:18, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

@Abhisingla1987 First this you have to understand is the difference between Nation and NDA. NDA is not nation. Your question has been answered in detail at #Should NDA be added into the list of major candidates. Please read and understand. Venkat TL (talk) 13:01, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

NDA got more than 6 percent votes in Punjab and 2 seats, still there candidates not added in Punjab page. AAP got 0.3% votes in UP with all seats with lost deposits, still their candidates are their on UP page. This is pure biasing. Abhisingla1987 (talk) 13:04, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

@Abhisingla1987, All of them got their security deposti lost. Why do you want to add their names? See WP:NOTDIR. Only names of winning and runner up candidates are added in Results section. Everyone else's name should be removed. Venkat TL (talk) 13:06, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

I don't have moderator access to add. If you are not biased, then remove AAP candidate from UP page. Abhisingla1987 (talk) 13:09, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

@Abhisingla1987 please WP:INDENT you post. The AAP candidates are not listed on the UP Page. So there is nothing to remove from 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election. You have to understand that candidates are not added to this page. There are 1400 candidates. Going by your logic, everyone should be added here ? Is this Wikipedia page or Election commission database? If you want to read the names of candidates, please visit the Election commission page. In the election page, only the winners and the runners up are added. That is the general custom being followed on Wikipedia. Once the result table is completed. The list of candidates along with 3rd place candidates will be removed from this page. Hope this helps to answer your question. Venkat TL (talk) 13:15, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

NDA candidates

BJP and their allies should be added in the list. [1] BJP had helped Akalis form absolute majority governments consecutively between 2007-17.

[2] BJP had won 3 seats in 2017 over 5% vote share , contesting 27 seats.

[3] BJP won 2 lok sabha seats in 2019 General elections , getting over 9% votes , translating to a lead on 17 assembly segments, in contrast to AAP which got only 1 LS seat, 7% votes and leads on 7 assembly seats only.

[4] Even in the Punjab Local Body Elections, BJP went alone , finished 4th only next to AAP.

BJP and their allies should be added. They are more relevant in Punjab then AAP in UP. Bharatiya Sanatani (talk) 22:54, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

@Bharatiya Sanatani Dont try to conflate with Akali. Akali is a major party in Punjab. BJP is not. After the split and before the split there is a major difference. explained in detail at #Should NDA be added into the list of major candidates Venkat TL (talk) 08:55, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
