Too many sections
@Manakpreet Singh: @Alluburam: There are currently too many sections in the article, so it’s very difficult to read the article. IMO, some sections should be merged in a better organized way.SangrurUser (talk) 03:16, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
You are right. Now check Manakpreet Singh (talk) 04:11, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Fylindfotberserk: Hi there, can you please look at this matter, user Alluburam keeps reverting edits without any discussion or explanation.SangrurUser (talk) 02:34, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Reverts without explanation
@Alluburam: Can you please explain why you reverted my edit? As I said, this is an article about the election, not about the demographics of Punjab. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 05:56, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- So you want to say demographics are not important in elections Alluburam (talk) 08:02, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- Alluburam, please explain how they are important enough to be mentioned in the article of an election that has not happened yet. Kind regards, Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 10:34, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- how they are important enough to be mentioned in the article of an election that has not happened yet. So u mean it will be mean if elections are complete Alluburam (talk) 10:52, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Alluburam: If the elections are complete and then you get reliable data about how the different demographics voted, then by all means add that data. However, the data that was on this page, which I removed, is not relevant to this article, and never will be. The only argument for retaining that data is that "certain demographics are expected to vote in certain ways", but since Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, we must not speculate about the future, especially not about how people will vote. Also, please indent your replies by adding five colons - like this

- I agree with @Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI:, the article is not about demographics. Also speculations about factors affecting an election which is 1 year from being held is silly and unnecessary. Lone Warrior 007 (talk) 10:57, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
especially not about how people will vote there was nothing about how people will vote. It is just a data of Punjab nothing else u want to make page according to u it's ok, do what u want Alluburam (talk) 11:18, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Section heading style
@Alluburam: I'm not sure why you made this edit because you didn't leave an edit summary. Just to clarify what I meant in this edit summary, using ampersands (i.e. &) in section headings is not in accordance with Wikipedia's Manual of Style as explained in MOS:AMP. In addition, the same Manual of Style stipulates that sentence case capitalization is to be used for section headings as explained in MOS:SECTIONCAPS. These are pretty straightforward style guidelines that have been in place for quite a long time; however, if there's something you don't understand, then feel free to ask for clarification. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:49, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

Reverting
@Alluburam, Why are you changing the original assembly constituencies and district name to unsourced local names, constituency name is different, local places are different and why r u reverting my edits without proper explanation Nahtrav (talk) 22:37, 9 July 2021
- @Alluburam: (re-ping). Nahtrav, a WP:PING alert will only work if there is a WP:SIG + timestamp (four tildes: ~~~~) attached at the end of the message. Anyway, as noted on your talk page, for some reason I'm having a bit of a time parsing the contested changes. Can you provide a couple of examples of these constituency name changes? (Sorry for splitting the conversation!) Thanks. El_C 11:32, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

- Nahtrav, please see WP:INDENT. Sorry, these permanent (mobile, argh) links are not helping me. Just cite a couple of these changes, with actual WP:DIFFs attached. Like, constituency named X changed into Y, etc. El_C 13:42, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Tables, tables everywhere
@Dhruv edits: Can you explain why you uncollapsed the empty tables? You left no edit summary, nor did you explain here on the talk page. I think the sea of blank tables makes scrolling past them to find more prose unnecessarily tedious. Kind regards, Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI talk | fings wot i hav dun 08:51, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
- P. S.: I wonder if there is a way to collapse them by default, which will be useful even after the tables are filled. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI talk | fings wot i hav dun 08:52, 19 August 2021 (UTC) .
The tables weren't collapsed, all the sections that had tables were being hidden, making the page look incomplete. Dhruv edits (talk) 12:07, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
- Dhruv edits, yes, hidden, same difference. I put the tables in comments for a reason - I would argue that having several hundred blank table entries makes the article look far more "incomplete" than this. Why include the tables when they're going to remain blank for a while anyway?
- And is there a way to make them collapsed by default? I seriously doubt the average future reader would want to read the large tables. Collapsing them by default means they can read it if they so wish, but are not otherwise encumbered by it. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI talk | fings wot i hav dun 14:31, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
Tables can be collapsed at the reader's wish if the table class is 'mw-collapsible'. I have done that for the table of candidates Dhruv edits (talk) 12:13, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

White space next to Opinion poll graph
Hi @SangrurUser you have reverted my edit Please see that there is unnecessary white space next to the Opinion poll graph. If you move the graph to the end of the previous section, then the white space is removed. The location of the graph itself remains the same, just the white space is removed. Please undo your removal. Please also see MOS:INDIANELECTION for the layout and section headings. Venkat TL (talk) 10:46, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Venkat TL:The white space only appears in desktop version, but when we move image to previous section, it doesn’t appear with relevant section in other versions. Not all users use desktop version. Or we can simply remove image for now, if that helps.SangrurUser (talk) 12:56, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

Should Sanyukt Samaj Morcha be added into the list of major candidates
I have a Proposal to remove Sanyukt Samaj Morcha from the list of candidates. Someone has added it without any discussion or consensus. Every candidate is not added to the list. Only candidates from Major parties. We have 4 major parties/Alliances, So the Candidate list should have 4 columns. Venkat TL (talk) 10:05, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- It was recently added by User:ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ without discussion. I have removed it now. Venkat TL (talk) 10:09, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Others parties are limited to some particular areas but it is a party in all the punjab and giving candidates on all seats. it's for the information to the people which is main motive of the wikipedia ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ (talk) 10:22, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Communist Party Is a national party. Their alliance candidates are also not added into the list. Same reason. Venkat TL (talk) 10:25, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- @ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ Please stop edit warring. In the Punjab elections page, there is limited space, so every candidate cannot be named there. If you add it again, you will be reported for edit warring. User:Preet Manak Singh, @Dhruv edits please re-do you last edit again. Venkat TL (talk) 10:50, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- I agree. SSM is a new unrecognised party and has no mention in any opinion poll (similar to many other unrecognised parties of Punjab). It's not notable enough to be added in 'Candidates' section. I had removed it earlier but it was added again. Dhruv edits (talk) 10:28, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for commenting @Dhruv edits. This thread will serve as consensus discussion thread to prevent future edit wars. Venkat TL (talk) 10:43, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
With a year long farmer’s movement, Sanyukt Samaj Morcha and Sanyukt Sangharsh Party have a strong influence and I firmly believe that it would be OK if we add candidates list of SSM+. So in my view the list must be added. Preet Manak Singh (talk) 10:54, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Preet Manak Singh without any evidence your word does not hold any weight. Samyukt Kisan Morcha had done the protest. Samyukt Kisan Morcha have no relation with the Sanyukt Samaj Morcha. SKM has banned the use of their flag by SSM. They are not the same. Don't try to mix up the two different orgs. Venkat TL (talk) 10:56, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Venkat TL before the formation of SKM, in Punjab, 32 Unions started agitation at local level and brought people together. SSM is formed by 22 of those 32 unions. This article clearly indicates what is the influence of these unions in Punjab and how they turned a local protests into a national movement. Preet Manak Singh (talk) 👇 https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/punjab/as-protest-continues-farmers-recall-how-it-started-in-punjab-212294
- @Preet Manak Singh, please sign the post. SKM was created with a separate cause. SSM has a different cause and they may not have the same popular support. The onus to show that support for SSM lies with the editor who wants to add SSM to the list. Please sign your post. Venkat TL (talk) 11:27, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

- Yes, in this request I agree with @Preet Manak Singh. Until consensus is achieved, @ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ should not add any other column in major canddiate section. Venkat TL (talk) 10:57, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
why are you mixing SKM with SSM. You are making your own viewpoint and then start speaking against it. ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ (talk) 12:30, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
I want to know why PLC candidates are there in it which was also formed in December. Wikipedia is for information and if it's providing information about candidates of major parties then what's wrong in it. If anybody is talking about CPI, then i want to clear they don't have candidates in all constituencies. SSM is a major party and that's why i am writing thwir candidates ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ (talk) 12:36, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- There is no rule that parties who field candidates in every constituency will have their candidates named in the election articles. If you want to propose such a rule, you will need to generate WP:CONSENSUS, before you can add that. Venkat TL (talk) 12:51, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Don't remove this content until election or until one consensus reached ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ (talk) 12:36, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ, please WP:INDENT your comments. Please read WP:CONSENSUS and WP:BRD to understand how this works. The onus for making consensus is on the user adding the content. I am going to report you for WP:EDITWAR. You can save yourself from the trouble of block if you self revert your last edit. PLC is With BJP alliance. There are BJP MLA in Punjab assembly. So they are counted as major. Venkat TL (talk) 12:36, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Brother SSM Might be a Good Political Force in punjab It's Seats would be shown in upcoming surveys so we should add it Tejasvi 3094 (talk) 17:20, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Tejasvi 3094 They might lose all their seats and even lose their security deposit. Thing is we are not speculating their success or failure. We can only name major party/alliances on this page. If you want to add them, you have to generate WP:CONSENSUS first. You cannot add unilaterally when there is consensus to not add them. Kindly undo your last edit and wait until a consensus emerges for these edits. Venkat TL (talk) 17:25, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- They Are widely being Covered By Punjab Media They Might Emerge as a good Contender Please Tell me What problem do you have if we put their name in the list Tejasvi 3094 (talk) 17:27, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Please WP:INDENT your posts. The party is covered by media. Not their individual candidates. The party is already mentioned in the alliance section of the article, that is not being removed. There is no need to mention every candidate from every party who is running in this elections. They are not the top 2-3 major party. If you disagree you need to prove this. Until then you cannot add. Kindly undo your last addition, or else you will be reported for WP:EDITWAR leading to a block. Venkat TL (talk) 17:42, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- The problem is the space. The Communist and Samajwadi party candidates can also be added if we follow your reasoning. There simply is not enough space to mention all candidates here. Only 2-3 major candidates of each constituency added.I have reverted your change to last version by ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ Venkat TL (talk) 19:50, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

Ok just need 1 more help how can i add someone name with blue color in which if soneone clicks their name ll get more details about candidate ? Iamrasm (talk) 15:54, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Iamrasm, Only names that have an existing article will show up as Blue link. You can read more on Wikipedia:Red link. So the article will need to be created. Only MLAs and popular people can have article. Party candidates cannot have article till they get elected. So even if you create the article, it will get deleted if it does not qualify the popularity standards written here WP:ANYBIO. So if you are thinking of creating link for people who are not MLAs yet, then you better drop the plan and save your time. It is better to leave them as black link. Venkat TL (talk) 16:04, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

- @ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ It is an empty table. Cannot be added. Please fill it with data and include reliable source. When you are done you can ping me. I will include the completed table. I think this data will be available in the evening. Venkat TL (talk) 07:44, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
- why i am not able to edit why should i give it to someone else. if some body is contributing then why he/she doesn't have the authority to add. ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ (talk) 10:18, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
- @ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ It is explained in detail at Wikipedia:Protection policy. Venkat TL (talk) 10:26, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Tesh28 and @ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ - As per MOS:INDELECT, only district voter turnout is to be added in election article. The tabular format has been added under section Voter turnout. You can fill that particular table and post it on the talk page along with reliable sources. Dhruv edits (talk) 23:33, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Dhruv edits - You claim that 'only district voter turnout is to be added.' And, you claim that this is Wiki format. However, the page you ask me to refer to (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Indian_politics/Election:_Article_structure#Turnout) clearly notes: "It is not one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, but rather intends to describe some aspect(s) of Wikipedia's norms, customs, technicalities, or practices." This clearly means more detailed alternates can be taken. Therefore, if constituency related information becomes available, it can be published on Wikipedia. Do you disagree? If yes, then why? I believe the table suggested by @ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਜਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ is a better version to go with once we can find the relevant data to fill it in. I have already made a start in that direction and given an authoritative source for it. I am repeating the source here for your benefit - https://www.business-standard.com/article/elections/voter-turnout-nearly-72-lowest-compared-to-last-3-punjab-assembly-polls-122022101426_1.html. Tesh28 (talk) 12:32, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Dhruv edits I understand that District Data needs to be there necessarily. however a collapsed table for constituency level data is also useful. Once the results are out, More columns can be added to this table to include the winner table. Dhruv edits Are you opposed to even including a cited collapsed table? Venkat TL (talk) 13:41, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Venkat TL I am not opposed to it altogether but I would be opposed to Constituency-wise turnout if it is going to be under "Voter turnout" section since it would be redundant to add the whole list of constituencies again and would increase the size of the page unnecessarily. I would rather constituency turnout be added in results section (under 'Results by Constituency' subsection) to avoid redundancy of information, which is what I think you are suggesting. Dhruv edits (talk) 14:42, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- Yes @Dhruv edits, @Tesh28. That is what I was suggesting. But till we have the results section. Let's allow this table in the Turnout section. Readers may want to check the table. A collapsed table may be helpful for them. For the rest it is only 1 line. Venkat TL (talk) 14:46, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

5. If you are not going to publish the detailed voter turnout chart, then I request you to add the highlighted map provided herein to your voter turnout table. It improves possibility of the reader analyzing for themselves the voting patterns based on geographical positioning of areas. For instance, Malwa voted better than other areas, or southern parts of Malwa voted better than the rest of Malwa, or less affluent parts of Malwa voted better than larger urban centres like Patiala, Ludhiana etc. Thank you. Tesh28 (talk) 12:45, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Tesh28 I am willing to add the table, it needs some work. The references need to be added inline. See WP:REFB Some of the rows are still empty, if all could be filled it will be ready. Venkat TL (talk) 12:52, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
- @talk - got it and on it. Will try to get as much data and cite it correctly today. Thanks. Tesh28 (talk) 13:17, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Tesh28 If you are repeating a ref you can use the < ref name="CHOOSE A NAME"> URL . and if you want to repeat it you can use ref name="CHOOSE A NAME" />. See the explanation at Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Repeated_citations Venkat TL (talk) 13:38, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

- @Tesh28 and Venkat TL I have updated the latest data in all districts. By deleting the columns of constituencies please update this table as it is more clear and have maps of districts.
- Tesh28, please sign when you reply. I have copied the table. The refs need to be improved and named. See WP:REFB Venkat TL (talk) 13:13, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

- @Tesh28 @Venkat TL The Hindustan Times reference seems to be outdated and has discrepancies with other sources. Punjab EC has released voter turnout report. Once the entries in the table are completed/corrected basis this report, only one reference can be used for the whole table. Dhruv edits (talk) 15:02, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
