On the field at midnight?
[edit]What was happening on the field at the stroke of midnight? It seemed to me that the field goal attempt may have been in progress. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 05:35, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- Correct. The clock struck midnight just before Ohio St. missed the field goal. 98.169.55.40 (talk) 06:25, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- Actually no, need to correct myself. The kick took place in 2022, the TV delayed it until 2023 in certain locations due to latency. However, Georgia still had to kneel the ball one time to officially end the game, so the game did end in 2023. 98.169.55.40 (talk) 20:35, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- I was watching ESPN. But it is interesting that the game started in 2022 and ended in 2023.Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 05:28, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

I'm not sure to what extent this discussion is related to the changes on the article of the date to "December 31 - January 1" or the year to "2022 - 2023" so I'll leave this here just in case: it doesn't matter what date the game technically ended on, for the purposes of the "date" of the game we care only when it started. I have also left a message on the talk page of the three IP editors who made these changes, from what I can find. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 06:36, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

Good Article review progress box
|
1. Well-written
- Ohio State made their fifth CFP appearance, having won the inaugural CFP national championship game. Should note what year this was, for those who don't know when the CFP began.
- Added "in 2015" to the end of that sentence. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Seventeen unanswered points by Georgia—two touchdowns and a field goal—gave them a three-point lead but a 37-yard pass from quarterback C. J. Stroud... Add a comma after "lead"
- Done. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- The potential game-winning field goal was missed almost exactly as new year began... Should be "as the new year began"
- Done. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- The Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce began organization of the game in 1986 and the location was once again moved to the Georgia Dome... Add a comma after "1986"
- Done. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- From 2006 to 2013 the game was known as the "Chick-fil-A Bowl"... Add a comma after "2013"
- Done. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- The four teams competing in the Playoff were chosen by the CFP selection committee... I believe "Playoff" should not be capitalized here
- Agreed, done. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- ...with their only prior game a Georgia victory in the 1993 Florida Citrus Bowl. This sentence would make more sense if you say "only prior game being a Georgia victory..."
- Reworded to "with their only prior game resulting in a Georgia victory..." PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Their CFP debut came in the 2017–18 edition, when they defeated Oklahoma... The comma after "edition" is not necessary
- Removed. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Combine the first four sentences in the "Game Summary" section into one paragraph
- Done. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- ...and three plays later the Buckeyes scored a 31-yard passing touchdown... Add a comma after "later"
- Done. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Georgia's second drive began with a loss of seven yards but the Bulldogs gained back... Add a comma after "yards"
- Done. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- The win improved Georgia to 14–0 and they advanced... Add a comma after "14-0"
- Done. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
2. Verifiable
The sources used are reliable. Passes Earwig's Copyvio check. Spot check: 5, 9, 14, 19, 22, 23, 29, 30 - All fine.
- In the infobox, the Nielsen ratings need a source.
- Added viewership in prose to "Aftermath" with a source. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:46, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- For ref. 27, change the website parameter to Football Zebras rather than footballzebras.com (for consistency with the other refs.)
- Done. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:47, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
3. Broad
- The game has been played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta since January 2018. You could add that this was because the Georgia Dome was demolished in 2017 (which is supported by the source).
- Added. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:46, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- The aftermath section should say that Georgia went on to win the CFP (since that's mentioned in the lead).
- Added. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:46, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Also, since it is mentioned in the lead, the "Midnight Miracle" nickname needs to be added to the body of the article.
- Added. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 18:46, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
4. Neutral and 5. Stable
No concerns for either criterion.
6. Illustrated
No images, unfortunately.
