Al-Hilm, the Official Matchball for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Semi-Finals and Finals

The match ball for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final and semi-finals, announced on 11 December 2022, features a variation of the Adidas Al-Rihla named the Adidas Al-Hilm, meaning 'The Dream' in Arabic, a reference to every nation's dream of lifting the FIFA World Cup. [1] Whilst the technical aspects of the ball are the same, the colour is different from the Al-Rihla balls used in the group stages and preceding knockout games, with a "Gold Metallic", Maroon, "Collegiate Burgundy", and Red design,[2] a reference to the national colors of host nation Qatar and the golden colors shared by the Final's venue and the FIFA World Cup Trophy. It is the fifth special ball for FIFA World Cup final matches,[3] after the +Teamgeist Berlin (2006), Jo'bulani (2010), Brazuca Final Rio (2014), and Telstar Mechta (2018). Route to the final

are we going to write a lengthy article for the final based on the standards used for past World Cup? hy[Ω]🐐 HyperionLEO (talk). 06:19, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

2022 FIFA World Cup Final2022 FIFA World Cup final – per WP:NCCAPS, and consensus at Talk:UEFA Women's Euro 1995 final. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:19, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

TITLECON is an essay, not a policy - arguably these should all be lowercase "f", rather than upper case, however, with the final of this event likely to have a very large viewership over the coming days, it's better to focus on this event and it's merits of correct title. Dignitaries in attendance

hy[Ω]🐐 HyperionLEO (talk). 21:55, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Why would anyone need an WP:INDISCRIMINATE list of people in attendance for an event. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 22:06, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
hey, I ain't the one who thinks this is important, or necessary lol. matter of fact, I deleted this section from the actual article. I just posted the source code here in case there's anyone who wants to employ it or discuss about it. hy[Ω]🐐 HyperionLEO (talk). 22:46, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Seven French substitutions?

How could France make seven substitutions? Was one of them a "concussion substitution" (or whatever it's called)? Which, in that case? 20:28, 18 December 2022 (UTC) Fomalhaut76 (talk) 20:28, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

Player of the match wording

The award is "player of the match" per this image and source. It is not man of the match.—Bagumba (talk) 21:07, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

The practice is Man of the match on English Wikipedia.--Island92 (talk) 21:15, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
FIFA World Cup awards suggests "man" was last used in 2018. If FIFA has "player" on the award now, I don't see why we would use an incorrect name for a 2022-related page. —Bagumba (talk) 21:30, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
I agree with you. If FIFA has agreed on being the "Player of the match", then we should follow it rather than doing the opposite. JoshuaInWiki (talk) 04:40, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
@Bagumba: Sure, but in that case we need to either start an RFC or some sort of village pump, as there are dozens of articles with this wording. Wretchskull (talk) 13:45, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
@Wretchskull: My question here is solely for 2022. I'm not pursuing past years, as I can respect if "man of the match" should happen to remain there, as that was at least the actual name of the award at the time. That seems like an independent discussion, if someone wants to pursue it. Regards. —Bagumba (talk) 13:54, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request on 19 December 2022

In the first paragraph, the phrase "The final took place in front of 88,966 supporters..." appears to be false and should either be corrected or removed. Lusail Stadium's published capacity is exactly 88,966 spectators. Several sources (references below plus Twitter search queries) state and show evidence that there were many empty seats during the final match. It is not possible for the match to take place in front of 88,966 supporters AND for there to be empty seats. The assertion that the stadium was at full capacity at any point in time is at best questionable. References:

If every official source says that the capacity was 88,966 then we will use 88,966, even if 50% of the stadium would be empty. Snowflake91 (talk) 10:41, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
Per above, see WP:VNT. Bsoyka (talk) 16:05, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

only second time silver boot had more than 6 goals

The only other time the #2 scorer at the tournement had more than 6 goals was Jairzinho in 1970 also with 7. 194.102.58.6 (talk) 14:01, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

Ok? That seems like it's not really important Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:02, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

Use picture of celebration like previous pictures?

Shouldn't a picture of the team celebrating be used in the lead, like previous wikipedia pages? Phillip Samuel (talk) 23:44, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

If there is a freely licenced image of it, that would be acceptable. I believe we had one, but it was deleted as a copyright violation. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:04, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Is French supporters gone too far?

There's a ton of news articles about the petition to rematch the final by French supporters in mesopinions.com and it gathered 200 thousand signatures from French supporters! Do anyone think that anyone gonna put this on the "Post match" section? Nobi-Wiki (talk) 03:31, 24 December 2022 (UTC)

No, why would we? What reason have the French supporters given for thinking the match should be replayed? They just fancy another go? – PeeJay 12:30, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

Verifiability

What is the verifiability and source for this claim?

"Universally recognized as the greatest World Cup final and arguably best football game of all time due to the Hollywoodesque back and forth and intensity."

Ata1334 (talk) 02:17, 26 December 2022 (UTC)

I think improvements can be made to the sentence, but you can easily find countless sources claiming that this was the greatest WC final. I dont edit much, but adding some references would be good. → Call me Razr Nation 03:32, 26 December 2022 (UTC)

Post-match

I was wondering is it worthible to mention in the article records which published Sundar Pichai and Mark Zuckerberg in the media:

Search recorded its highest ever traffic in 25 years during the final of #FIFAWorldCup 1, it was like the entire world was searching about one thing!

and

Leo Messi's World Cup post is now the most liked in Instagram history. WhatsApp also reached a record 25 million messages per second during the final.

At least Google Search record and Whatsapp record but I only quoted what Pichai and Zuckerberg said in publicity. Obviousy there are plenty various sources for that Dawid2009 (talk) 11:07, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

yes we should quote it hy[Ω]🐐 HyperionLEO (talk). 12:25, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
I am going to move some content from List of most-liked Instagram posts (with sayig coauthors in edit summary), and additionally use that sources: [7], [8]. If there will be no opposition this weekend, the I will do it by WP:Bold. Cheers. Dawid2009 (talk) 20:38, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

Unused substitutes

Surely they should be listed somewhere? 2A00:23C7:9D07:6901:E174:27CA:44D6:6721 (talk) 15:23, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

All players who were in the squads would qualify for this, and we already have 2022 FIFA World Cup squads. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 19:24, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
