Requested move 16 December 2019

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: the previous discussion in 2016 that resulted in the use of "Taiwan" titles is at Talk:2016 Taiwanese general election#Should we change the titles of those election articles from "Republic of China xxx elections" to "Taiwanese xxx elections"? and resulted in a consensus to move the articles to titles using "Taiwan" or "Taiwanese", but no strong affirmation of one form or the other. Here, there is consensus to move the pages to titles using "Taiwanese", per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 06:45, 24 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

– According to WP:NC-GAL. Ythlev (talk) 22:18, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per the WP:NC-GAL naming guideline for elections, which states that the adjectival form should be used. Number 57 22:35, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support for the same reason.--Aréat (talk) 14:18, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support for the proposed change. The proposal would make the article titles grammatically correct which would be an improvement. Île flottante (talk) 10:19, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support for the change. Other articles use adjectival form while this one doesn't which makes no sense for me. ShadZ01 (talk) 16:26, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Oppose: While the MOS does call for the adjectival form of the country to be used, not all election articles use the same naming format, with US and UK elections being the very notable exceptions. I am going to say that in this case, we should not fix what is not broken. Kiteinthewind Leave a message!
  • Support as per WP:NCGAL. For individual elections and referendums, use the format "Date [adjectival form of country name] type election/referendum", and "Taiwan" does not seem to justify a similar, exceptional case such as done for United Kingdom/United States elections. Removing Soong from infobox

[edit]

As one pointed out, it is standard practice to exclude candidates with fewer than 5% votes unless second place. Ythlev (talk) 04:35, 13 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose: It is not based on any guideline. Soong is on every major media outlet. Lmmnhn (talk) 02:00, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is based on a longstanding consensus. I would suggest raising the issue at WT:E&R if you wish to deviate from it. Number 57 12:41, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Soong is still in the 2012 TW Presidential Election article with less than 5% of the votes. Jargo Nautilus (talk) 08:58, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Soong scored better in 2020 than in 2012. He should be either re-added to 2020 or removed from 2012. Impru20talk 12:13, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Number 57: Related to our discussion, where is this consensus you speak of? You better start being more explicit about these standards otherwise the disputes will only continue. Ythlev (talk) 00:50, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As it is something that has been around a long time, I can't find the original discussion, but you can see other editors referencing it in discussions like this or this. To give you an idea of how old it is, this discussion (from 2010) references it. Number 57 12:37, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What I'm saying is an MOS ought to be written. Or at least in the template doc. The way you enforce conventions that are lost in the wind is counterproductive. Ythlev (talk) 14:23, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Han's name

[edit]

Han did not contest the election as Han Kuo-yu. He contested it as Daniel K Y Han (as per CEC website). This should be corrected. Constant Pedant (talk) 22:51, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Does it matter? Wikipedia uses common names. Ythlev (talk) 03:27, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think he has the right to decide what his own name is. Constant Pedant (talk) 09:58, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mainland's meddling

[edit]

Mainland's espionage operation regarding meddling - support for KMT Kuomintang candidate Han, and anti-Tsai actions - of 2019 is discussed in 19:00 - 27:38 of the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdR-I35Ladk (I saw neither "meddl" in the text, nor a hint of this kind of activity in the Contents.) Is this covered in the article sufficiently? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Szozdakosvi (talkcontribs) 19:18, 10 July 2022 (UTC) --Szozdakosvi (talk) 19:22, 10 July 2022 (UTC) https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Szozdakosvi[reply]

Minor point, but I forgot to add details here

[edit]

Someone (wasn't actually a user, was rather an edit done by someone showing nothing else but their IP address) literally hijacked this article earlier to make it seem like Tsai Ing-wen received a much higher amount of both votes and vote share than she did (I quickly caught onto how it was wrong based on the map, showing areas where Han still won Taiwanese counties, and obviously the KMT did better in 2020 than it had in 2016), and also made Han's performance appear significantly worse than it actually was.
