United Kingdom Alternative Vote referendum, 2011United Kingdom Alternative Vote referendum 2011 – The comma is normally dropped or omitted before the year in modern standard British English, such as when we in Britain (in the United Kingdom) have to write out the date in full with both words and numbers. No reason to "harmonise" every single title of articles about all of the World's elections effectively with American English. We don't have "New World Order" and "One World Government" yet, for sweet Fanny's sake! See also [1]. This article is also being nominated secondarily for having a grammatically-incorrect title for the sake of the consistency of my argument. Thank you very much indeed. -- Urquhartnite (talk) 13:34, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stop your obvious WP:Wikihounding! You have been practically following me around all day so far, raising more-or-less pointless objections! If you think that this is disruptive, then take it to the AN/I, why don't you?! -- Urquhartnite (talk) 14:26, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I might take you up on that invitation. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 14:28, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Potentially misleading statement in lead?

[edit]

Referring to: "This was only the second nationwide referendum to be held (the first being the EEC referendum in 1975) and the first that was not merely consultative; being "post-legislative" and therefore committing the government to give effect to its decision."

I'm not sure if this is accurate, in theory (because of parliamentary sovereignty) the government could well have refused to give effect to the referendum result. Politically it of course would not have done so but legally it would have been well within its powers. Thoughts? Feasey (talk) 11:36, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think the point is that, yes, Parliament could have overridden the referendum result, but only by passing a new Act. This is opposed to other cases where an Act was needed to enact a referendum result. Bondegezou (talk) 12:03, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
