Reviewer: Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs) 07:32, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.
If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)
I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I will use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.
Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:18, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.
Immediate Failures
[edit]It is a long way from meeting any one of the six good article criteria
- Done Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:53, 12 July 2019 (UTC)It contains copyright infringements
- there's one on Copyvio detector, but I don't think so. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:53, 12 July 2019 (UTC)It has, or needs, cleanup banners that are unquestionably still valid. These include{{cleanup}}, {{POV}}, {{unreferenced}} or large numbers of {{citation needed}}, {{clarify}}, or similar tags. (See also {{QF-tags}}).

Prose
[edit]Lede
[edit]- Geoff Bodine won the pole position through a lot, - what does this mean? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:55, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
- This is a formal name to say that Bodine won the poie position via a draw. MWright96 (talk) 18:42, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
- rest is fine Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:55, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

Practice and qualification
[edit]- Sorry for the delay on this one - Had my hands full with an FA. back now:
- For qualifying, the nineteen drivers that appeared to race chose - I prefer "nineteen participants", less confusing. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:01, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- pole position and Kurt Busch are both linked twice. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:01, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Rectified. MWright96 (talk) 12:10, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- The qualifying is quite long just to say where the top ten finished. I'd stick with a top 5, considering it was a lot. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:01, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Not too sure about this query since there are less than 20 participants in the race. MWright96 (talk) 12:10, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
Race
[edit]- Eastern Standard Time (UTC−05:00) - Don't need to say both of these things. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:01, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- MOS:TIMEZONE states that this is an acceptable method of writing. MWright96 (talk) 12:10, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- was televised live - broadcast live
- commanded the drivers to start their engines - "commanded" is quite a strong word. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:01, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- I think that is acceptable and it is tradition to start the race via this method in NASCAR racing. MWright96 (talk) 12:10, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- On lap three, Geoff Bodine felt one of his tires rubbing on his car's bodywork, and he drove his car into the garage.[2] It was discovered that his suspension was damaged and he was confirmed as the race's only retirement on the fourth lap. - lap three or four? Did he notice it on 3 and pit on lap 4? Or, did he go back out and come back in? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:01, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Clarified. MWright96 (talk) 12:10, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- The whole thing about the 10-minute pit stop needs explaining to me. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:01, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Clarified. MWright96 (talk) 12:10, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Newman clung onto Earnhardt's rear bumper panel - not literally, surely? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:01, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, this is a technique called bump drafting as to maintain momentum. MWright96 (talk) 12:10, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- attempted to go two abreast behind him - did they go two abreast? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:12, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Corrected. MWright96 (talk) 12:10, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
Post-race comments
[edit]- Could this be changed to something like "press comments?" Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:12, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Changed it to "After the race". MWright96 (talk) 12:10, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- The Semi-colon in the first sentence isn't right, neither part is required for the other. I'd just change to "The win earned Earnhardt $205,000 and celebrated by performing donuts in the infield grass in front of a crowd of 75,000 people."Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:12, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Rest is good. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:12, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Comments
[edit]- Automated note - If you fancy returning the favour, I have outstanding GA nominations that require reviewing at WP:GAN. I'd be very grateful if you were to complete one of these, however it's definately not manditory. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 07:17, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- Hi MWright96, pretty close here, just a few comments above. Sorry for the delay. I'd also mention that the table isn't effected by WP:DUPLINK, so you can link every instance of a team/driver being mentioned. I won't place this on hold, as it's pretty close. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:14, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Lee Vilenski: Many thanks for reviewing another article of mine that I have significantly expanded. All of the queries raised above and have said where I have not and provided a reason for why. MWright96 (talk) 12:10, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
