Stub

[edit]

Maybe this article is too short (stub) but I'm working on it. juan andrés 03:27, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I highly doubt you'll be able to find enough information for a full article. Jdorje 07:20, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Merge it? Hurricanehink 21:57, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Jdorje 00:36, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong storm

[edit]
Wrong storm! The Sea Islands and the Charleston hurricanes were two different storms. I'll see if I can find some good info on Storm 9 of 1893. I also propose a name change to 1893 Golden Isles Hurricane because that is another name for the Sea Islands of the north Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina coasts. Trust me, I live in Atlanta and have a condo down on the Georgia coast, that's what they're called down there now. The Sea Islands was what they were once called long ago. This hurricane affected all those islands and just happened to make landfall near Charleston. This would also prevent confusion just as much as the Charleston name would. That's just my opinion. -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 05:41, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for saying it, maybe I was confused. Don't worry this article is kind of stub, it needs to be improved, but thanks for the warning. User:juan andrés 18:45, 12 January 2006 (UTC).[reply]

I think you may both be a little confused. The 1893 Sea Islands Hurricane struck near Savannah; Eric - it should not be renamed as the "Golden Isles" hurricane since all the documentation calls it the former (Chenier Caminanda doesn't exist anymore either, but we don't rename that hurricane). The Charleston Hurricane struck a little further north, a little later in the season (see the links Eric gave). Jdorje 07:00, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Even more confused is the writer of the article of the source you give. He starts off talking about the Sea Islands hurricane but then quotes an article that's about the 1893 Chenier Caminanda Hurricane! Jdorje 07:14, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify - Eric, I know you're not confused about the storms, but your reply was confusing since it seemed like you are suggesting renaming of *this* article when I assume you're actually suggesting renaming 1893 Sea Islands Hurricane as 1893 Golden Isles Hurricane. Jdorje 07:15, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, I was talking about this one. Charleston wasn't the only place it significantly affected. That would be like calling Hurricane Andrew the Homestead Hurricane of 1992. People would read that title and think it did a Hugo (one knockout punch right in the face). But either way works. I'm flexable. -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 04:00, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

[edit]

I was going to upload a picture, but I am worried because I don't know what would happen if it has Copyright. juan andrés 23:52, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If it has a copyright, don't upload it. It's against Wikipedia policy. Check the site for a copyright and if it has one or you can't find a consumer use policy, don't upload it. -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 01:07, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Any picture would be from 1893 and thus any copyright on it has expired. - Cuivienen 22:28, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
