Many Contradictions

[edit]

The description of the replica Statue of Liberty in this article directly contradicts the description of the replica in the Statue of Liberty article under the heading "Depictions". That article says that the replica in Île aux Cygnes is one-fifth the height, while this article says it is one-fourth scale. Also, this article says that the replica "was given by the Parisian community living in the United States to the municipality of Paris..." while the Statue of Liberty article says that it "was given by the American community in Paris to that city."

Which is it? One-forth or one-fifth? Was the replica paid for by Americans living in Paris, or French people living in America?

I will copy and paste this concern in the Statue of Liberty discussion page as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.110.212.12 (talk) 23:11, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Various sources give the height of the statue (from foot to tip of torch) as 11.5m, i.e. one quarter of the height of the original (46m). The statue was a gift to the city of Paris by the "Comité des Américains de Paris" i.e. the American Committee of Paris, a group for American residents of Paris. 83.202.103.236 (talk) 16:03, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"It derives its name from..."

[edit]

This appears to be a mistranslation of the French wikipedia article which states that the island is "not to be confused with" the former Île des Cygnes. I see no suggestion elsewhere that one name derives from the other, so I'm deleting the assertion as an error. 92.151.191.190 (talk) 17:02, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"The statue was a gift to the city of Paris by the "Comité des Américains de Paris" i.e. the American Committee of Paris, a group for American residents of Paris"

[edit]

This is a common belief that is unfortunately a legend. It contradicts history and the very text written on the plaque. The statue was not a gift of the American residents of Paris, it was a gift of the Parisian community in the US. The plaque reads: "Cette statue a été offerte à la ville de Paris par la communauté parisienne des États-Unis d'Amérique", quite literally: "This statue was offered to the city of Paris by the community of Parisians in the USA." I have fixed the text in the page to reflect this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aresando (talkcontribs) 21:30, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Length of the Island

[edit]

Per the official sign placed on the island by the Mairie de Paris, the Allee des Cygnes is 890 metres long and 11 metres wide, not 850 metres. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.245.105.57 (talk) 04:50, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
