[edit]- 1831 – The John Bull, the oldest surviving operable steam locomotive in the world, arrives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from Liverpool.
- 1861 – The Staten Island Railway is placed into receivership with William Henry Vanderbilt as receiver.[1][2][3]
- 1867 – The Boston and Albany Railroad is formed through the merger of four smaller railroads in New England.
