[edit]- 1899 – The New York Central Railroad leases the Boston and Albany Railroad.
20th century

- 1919 – The "golden spike" is driven and construction of the San Diego and Arizona Railway is completed at a cost of $18 million.
- 1964 – Shin-Sayama Station on what is now Seibu Railway's Seibu Shinjuku Line in Sayama, Saitama, Japan, is opened.[1]
- 1982 – The Jōetsu Shinkansen opens for service between Tokyo and Niigata.
21st century
[edit]- 2001 – Two Canadian National Railway trains collide head-on in Andersonville, Michigan (northwest of Detroit).
- 2004 – QR Tilt Train Spirit of Townsville derails near Berajondo, Queensland, Australia, due to excessive speed at a curved section of track. None of the 157 people on board died. See Cairns Tilt Train derailment.
