[edit]- 1831 – The Mohawk and Hudson Railroad, the first railroad built in New York state, opens.
- 1844 – In the United Kingdom, the Railway Regulation Act 1844 requires every railway company to run at least one passenger train a day in both directions along the length of each of its lines, calling at every station; these trains soon become known as Parliamentaries.[1]
- 1848 – The Darvel Branch extension built by the Glasgow and South Western Railway in Scotland opens to Galston.[2]
20th century
[edit]- 1905 – Heath Park Halt, the terminus for passenger services on the Nickey line, opens.[3]
- 1955 – Canadian National Railway opens its part of Walkley Yard in Ottawa, Canada.
- 1958 – The Moccasin, the longest running named passenger train in Canada thus far, is discontinued.
21st century
[edit]- 2003 – Indian Railways begins passenger train service between Hyderabad and Secunderabad with 13 trains between Lingampally and Hyderabad, and 11 between Lingampally and Secunderabad. Also see Hyderabad MMTS

[edit]- 1805 – Joseph Locke, English civil engineer who became Chief Engineer on the Grand Junction Railway, is born (d. 1860).
Deaths
[edit]- 1916 – Alpheus Beede Stickney, first president of Chicago Great Western Railway 1884-1909, dies (b. 1840).[4]
