[edit]- 1871 – The New Haven and Derby Railroad, a predecessor of the New Haven Railroad in Connecticut, opens between New Haven and Derby Junction (present day Ansonia).

- 1890 – The first section of Salzkammergut-Lokalbahn, connecting Ischl and Strobl, Germany, opens.
