The Rural Municipality of Milden No. 286 (2016 population: 327) is a rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within Census Division No. 12 and SARM Division No. 5.
History
[edit]The RM of Milden No. 286 incorporated as a rural municipality on December 12, 1910.[2]
Geography
[edit]There are two lakes within the RM – Barber Lake and Milden Lake.[5] Barber Lake and its outflow, Macdonald Creek, are within the Barber Lake (SK 050) Important Bird Area (IBA) of Canada. The IBA covers an area of 56.51 square kilometres (21.82 sq mi) and is an important habitat to several bird species, including the canvasback, Ross's goose, lesser scaup, eared grebe, American coot, dowitcher, Wilson's phalarope, ferruginous hawk, long-billed curlew, upland sandpiper, and the chestnut-collared longspur.[6]

[edit]In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, the RM of Milden No. 286 had a population of 280 living in 75 of its 97 total private dwellings, a change of -14.4% from its 2016 population of 327. With a land area of 732.95 km2 (282.99 sq mi), it had a population density of 0.4/km2 (1.0/sq mi) in 2021.[9]
In the 2016 Census of Population, the RM of Milden No. 286 recorded a population of 327 living in 97 of its 114 total private dwellings, a 15.5% change from its 2011 population of 283. With a land area of 735.29 km2 (283.90 sq mi), it had a population density of 0.4/km2 (1.2/sq mi) in 2016.[4]

Government
[edit]The RM of Milden No. 286 is governed by an elected municipal council and an appointed administrator that meets on the second Wednesday of every month.[3] The reeve of the RM is Grant Thomson while its administrator is Denise Ward.[3] The RM's office is located in Milden.[3]
