This notice seems to be appearing on /doc redirects, example here. I think this notice should be removed from redirects. A discussion about this is found at WP:VPT#Template doc header, where it's been suggested that this is the correct page that applies the {{Documentation subpage}} template. Also suggested was the use of {{redirect other}}, perhaps in the following manner:

  • Modify this page from this:
{{#ifeq:{{#titleparts:{{PAGENAME}}|1|2}}|documentation||{{documentation subpage}}}}
  • to this:
{{Redirect other||{{#ifeq:{{#titleparts:{{PAGENAME}}|1|2}}|documentation||{{documentation subpage}}}}}}
 Done. Did a slightly different way though, just using the module part without the template part. -- WOSlinker (talk) 20:27, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so very much, editor WOSlinker! Your fix works just fine! P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 23:03, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The way the transclusion of template {{documentation subpage}} on the page MediaWiki:Scribunto-doc-page-header works, it does not contribute to the categorization of /doc pages. Which means that ‹The template Category link is being considered for merging.› Category:Module documentation pages ( 32 ) is mostly populated by pages, where there is a separate, duplicate transclusion of {{documentation subpage}}. For example, how it is on Module:Infobox3cols/doc versus Module:WP/doc, which has only one copy of {{documentation subpage}} from MediaWiki:Scribunto-doc-page-header.

Compare to ‹The template Category link is being considered for merging.› Category:Template documentation pages ( 36,610 ), which is mostly properly populated thanks to Template:Documentation/preload.

If we don't care for proper categorization of /doc pages into Category:Module documentation pages, perhaps it ought to be deleted. What do you think? —andrybak (talk) 09:23, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another option could be to blank MediaWiki:Scribunto-doc-page-header and add {{documentation subpage}} to all the module documentation pages. -- WOSlinker (talk) 09:39, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Precisely. I don't mind either way.
For my gnomish edits in /doc pages of templates, Category:Template documentation pages helps in two ways:
  1. blanking of pages (test edits, vandalism) shows up as "Category:Template documentation pages .. User:Example (talk | contribs) (Template:Example/doc removed from category ...)" in the watchlist, which helps for speedy reverting
  2. I sometimes check and clean up (formatting, categorization, etc) newly created /doc pages, which also shows up in the watchlist.
Modules' /doc pages are not as affected by the blanking issue as templates are. For the second item, modules' /doc pages are often just "Implements template {{example}}, see documentation there." —andrybak (talk) 14:00, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
